is there a recipe that any one has to make rkt for modeling? do you use the store bought ones? we need to make a few things and thought maybe rkt would be the way to go. you guys have so much talent and are so willing to help - i'm glad i stumbled on to this website.
thanks
linda
You can use the recipe on the rice krispie box or you can buy store bought, but it might be cheaper to make your own. I have done both. I just used them on my cinderella cake that is in my photos. I used store bought for my steps and clock tower. It was such a small job, so I did not want to make a big batch of homemade for that small of a job. Hope this helps.

There have been some good posts on here about what people do to mold their RKT but I am not savvy enough to have saved them and therefore post them for you. I do remember that some have said that they mold better if you leave out the butter, if making your own, and just use the marshmallows and cereal. I have tried that method to mold the birds on my birdhouse cake and it worked fine. Good luck.
I leave out the butter when I make them... To make smaller batches you can just halve or third the recipe on the box.

OK, guys, you talk about a recipe on the RK box??
Here in SA we do not have a recipe on our boxes so could someone
please be so kind as to post the recipe on this thread for future reference.
As it seems, there is quite a bit that one can do with RKT's
Many thanks
here is the recipe i use, I hope this helps!
40 large marshmallos
1/2 stick of butter
5 Cups rice cereal
melt the butter and mallos on med-low heat stir constantly until melted. Mix the cereal in until covered then shape.
I like to wear latex gloves when shaping, I found it works best if you grease your hands or gloves before handling. (keeps from sticking to you)
GOOD LUCK!
I was wondering if you remembered seeing any posts about making RKT to model with using homemade marshmallows. I live in Greece and the marshmallows here seem to be either stale or don't melt properly or just plain expensive. I make my own marshmallows regularly and thought I could just substitute the same weight - however, I added another 4 cups to the 6 cups and 10 ounces of marshmallow and its a sticky mess! I hope it might dry out over the next few hours. Any pointers?
Ok so I answered my own question. I made RKT using homemade marshmallows and it was a success!
I used the Martha Stewart recipe for the marshmallows (http://www.marthastewart.com/333971/homemade-marshmallows), followed it to the end, letting it set for an hour or so to make it easier to handle. I then measured 10 oz (283g) which is what a packet of store bought marshmallows would be. I remelted the marshmallows using only one tablespoon of butter. I then added the 6 cups of RK the original recipe calls for but found it was way too sticky. I ended up putting 10 cups and then mixing and letting it sit for a little. Then with well oiled hands I managed to shape it the way I wanted it.
Thanks,
