I want to make a cake with 2 tiers.
I want to add decorations (jungle animals) and then also some dots.
So I was thinking of just doing a BC icing over the whole cake...and then making the animals and decorations with MMF.
(Got this idea from a cake in the gallery with dots and monkeys)

My question is (or are):
What recipe should I use for the BC, and how hard will it be to add the dots to the cake? (The animals will just be sitting on the cake)

Should I wait for the BC to crust before adding the decorations?
Also, I will make the MMF, put n the fridge overnight, and then make the dots and animals. Can I make them before the day of assembly? If so, do I store in the fridge or in a container at room temperature. Will the colors fade?

I will make a cake beforehand to give it a try, but I thought I would ask so I could maybe miss some mistakesicon_smile.gif
Thank you!

You can use any buttercream with MMF. Don't let it crust before adding the MMF because this will allow the MMF to stick to the buttercream. If it crusts, you will need to use other methods to get it to stick.

I'm assuming you're talking about dots cut from MMF using cookie cutters? If so, cut them and place them on the cake. You're done. Super easy.

You don't need to put MMF in the fridge. I recommend you don't. It is fine sitting out. You can make the animals days ahead and just let them sit out at room temperature. You can't mess up MMF. Just keep them covered without putting them in a container so they will dry and firm up.

Plus, the color should not fade.
