I have completed a couple of cake decorating classes and are now making cakes on the side for events. I am in the market for a really good turntable. I am not sure if I should get the 12 by 16 stainless steel one for 70 dollars or a cheaper round one. Any advice?

I started out w/the Trim N Turn(Wilton) and then bought the Revolving Cake Stand (wilton) for around $10 and that has been all I needed. I do mostly sheets cakes and it has worked out great! If you are just getting into cake decorating you will find that there are so many other things you need that you might not want to spend so much on a turntable. I guess it's a personal thing but if you can afford it, then what the heck, go for it! Happy baking, Missey

If you want to go cheap- I purchased a wood lazy susan at walmart for no more than $10. It's big enough to hold sheet cakes with no problem, and if I need height I just put a phone book or something similar under it. Not to mention, when you are done using it, it still looks nice enough to keep out on your counter in your kitchen, or put on your dining room table.

Hey,
I also started out w/ the $10 turn table too. Today for my Valentine's Day gift from my hubby, bought by "ME"...
ha ha!! I got the nice $59 turntable at Michael's. It is a few inches higher then the other one I have & also the cakes are more stable on it because it has that rubber mat & also it has 2 different angles. I have back problems so I always sit the turn table on phone books too or a large bowl turned upside down. Now I will have added height! I love all the cool gadgets stores sell!!! But watch it everyone... not all are useful! Don't spend so much money on something just because you think it's nice. Always ask around first.
