Just wondering what everyone's preference is? I am making a big batch for several gift baskets and cannot decide if I should add walnuts.
Thanks!

I agree with starrchaser. Then again, I am one of the allergic ones.

I don't like nuts in fudge, ruins the creamy part of the fudge in my opinion.

I too prefer it without nuts. I think walnut is just too strong of a flavor and ruins the chocolate for me!! Just my opinion, however from my own experience I think most people prefer it without the nuts.

I love it with black walnuts but my stepson is allergic to nuts so I always may both kinds. If I were giving it for gifts I'd make it without just to be safe.

oh my, I love my fudge loaded. Maybe after you make your batch without FIRST..for those allergic ones that may be out there...you can make a smaller batch that you individually wrap and label....

I couldn't eat a piece of fudge without it having something else in it..I find it too sweet unless I cut it into very very small chunks!

I'm a nut!

I think it's totally boring without.

Those who are allergic can avoid.

I prefer my fudge without nuts. Growing up, my Grandma would make it with walnuts in it. I would grab a piece and take a bite into a nut. Bluch.

Also, I too agree about the allergies.

No nuts for me! I've always hated nuts in chocolate - cookies, fudge, brownies, whatever - I think it takes away from what it is - it doesn't usually add to any of those things in my opinion.

Plus - kids don't like nuts that often - so if you're making for kids, you may want to consider that - also the allergy thing.

Good luck! No nuts! icon_smile.gif There's enough nuts (crazy people) in the world anyway - and especially at Christmas - who needs to add them to our sweets icon_smile.gif Those should be calming and enjoyable - not nutty! icon_razz.gif just my opinion icon_smile.gif

I like my walnuts surrounded by just enough fudge to hold them together. icon_biggrin.gif.

I think that the two varieties would be best for the gift baskets. Wrap em seperately of course. I prefer nuts in mine but hubby can't stand nuts they get stuck in his teeth. So, in my opinion make some of both and everyone is happy.

I like mine with. Although I prefer pecans...

I agree though that some of each would make everyone happy.

If you are going to take this approach, it is a very good idea to wrap and label the nutty fudge, so somebody who is allergic doesn't accidentally get a bit of nut in a piece that didn't have any nuts showing on the outside. (I've had this happen.)

People who are (literally) deathly allergic to nuts are likely to avoid goodie baskets entirely, unless they are positive that there are no nuts in any of the basket items. (or the nutty items are labeled and kept apart) Others, like me, are less severely allergic, but still can't have any nuts.

People with food sensitivities have the responsibility to check before consuming, but it is courteous to provide enough information to help with regards to nut allergies, because they are so common.

At one catered event I attended, there were "vegetarian sandwiches" as one of the lunch options. Silly me didn't expect this to be a cheese, veggie and walnut sandwich. Yuck! Then, the caterer refused to give me a different option, because I had bitten into the sandwich before discovering it had nuts. (I don't mean in "Health Nut" bread. I mean whole walnuts liberally scattered among the veggies.

I'll have mine WITH nuts. I won't eat hardly anything chocolate without nuts. Especially fudge. I love nuts in everything. I have recently discovered that I even like them in salads! I guess you never get too old to try something new.

I would do both and label the one with nuts as Redpanda suggested just in case!

WITH NUTS! WITH NUTS! Ohhhh sooo good!

IMO, if you know the most of the people who you will be giving the gifts to, you should make what you want and not worry about general allergies, because you would probably know about them.

If you usually make fudge with nuts, make it with nuts. It's what people would be expecting. If it's usually without, do that.

Thanks everyone! I decided to go without nuts because of the allergy issue. I prefer mine without nuts but was curious to know what most people like. This fudge will be included in a gift basket for my daughters teachers as well as several of my neighbors. Since my husband is in the Army, I do not know everyone really well, I am not sure who has allergies and who does not. Everyone has several children, so I figured this was the safest way to go. Thanks agian!! icon_lol.gif
