My friend just asked if I can do a bday cake for a toga party she's going to this weekend. I'm kind of stuck for ideas. It only needs to serve 10-15 people. The best I could come up with so far was using a wondermold & draping it in a fondant toga...... any better ideas out there???
I searched online but couldn't find anything.

Thanks in advance!!

I think you might have an idea since it only has to feed a few people. Another idea (I have torsos on the brain this morning I guess) would be to cut a 1/4 sheet like a torso and drape the fondant on to look like a toga. Sounds like fun!

How about making a small round cake and putting leaves around it to look like a laurel leaf wreath, like ancient Romans would wear on their heads?

When I think of a toga party (besides college) I think of pedestals, columns and ivy wreaths. White and Gold colors. golden apples, grapes, pears.

Here are some ideas:

1. I was thinking that you make an appropriate sized cake and then make a pedestal on top. Cover something cylindrical with fondant complete with a square top and bottom (look at any picture of a column or pedestal) then drape a small wreath of ivy off of it and or a fondant toga, or fruit.

2. Or put the wilton wedding columns on the corners of the cake if you do a square. Edge the top of the cake with ivy leaves and grapes hanging down. I know there is a way to make sugared grapes, you could put a real bunch of grapes on top.

3. Search Grecian cakes on Google images....there's one with the wilton grecian wedding columns along the sides and a fondant drape connecting them. That would be pretty easy. Then you could do anything you want on the top.

Hope you get some inspiration from my rambling.

I like this idea, and a funnier version might be making your round cake in a bowl or wonder pan or ball pan. And decorating it using the prospective of a man's bald head. Flesh icing to represent a bald head, with some hair around back and on the sides. Create a wreath of silk ivy and place it on top. If only I could think of something cute to say.

Maybe something like" PARTY LIKE ITS 100 B.C."

Here's what I came up with for a friend going to a toga party on 2 days notice,
Thanks everyone for your ideas!! I'll keep those in mind for next time.

You can't really see that he has a laurel wreath too because of the angle of the picture. I like the picture of him laying on the leaves because my writing sucks but I liked the idea of using Roman Numerals for her age. My Greek God doesn't look as hunky as the one in the Debbie Brown book (which has GREAT directions by the way!!) It's supposed to look like he's sitting on top of a pillar/column but I had to cover it with the "bed of leaves" because the fondant ripped in spots off of the cake board.

It was a 3 layer 6 inch chocolate cake with pinwheel filling (from the WBH book) & WBH BC.
How much would you guys have charged for something like this??
