There is a bakery shop in a small town about 20 minutes away that has done great business over the years because it is the only bakery in that area. I just found out that they bought out another bakery here in the town I am in. They do a majority of sheet cakes, but also do wedding cakes and cookies. I have been thinking about getting a job in the cake industry and thought this might be the perfect place to start. The bakery does not do any fondant work. Other bakeries in this area do, along with the owner of the shop that they just bought out. I have noticed that more people are wanting fondant cakes than the usual sheet cakes. I was hoping to talk to the new owner about working for her and possibly the option of doing fondant work. I was wondering what would be the best way to approach this, or if I should approach it at all? Any adviec would be helpful.

I also entered two cakes into our county fair as a beginner, and recieved first place and best of show for them. The owner of the bakery also entered cakes, and has made the comment that she liked my cake entries better than the profesional cake entries. I'm hoping that this will increase my chances of getting a job with her.

You have nothing to lose by asking. mention you met at the fair, and that you would be interested in working in the bakery.
