ok so i have a question for yall... heres my story...i know someone who is trying to get into making things from home ( jellies, jams, candy etc...) and has like 6 or so pets in the house...BUT...there is hair EVERYWHERE!!! its drives me nutso...im not a neat freak..but im clean...so imma toss out a question...how do you go about bringing up something like this to someone with out it sounding like you are trying to tell them what to do or how to do it? i dont want to seem like an a$$ by saying something..i mean i have even seen this person pick animal hair out of things that have been made...how would any of you handle this? any suggestions?

well she is not liced...and i dont think that she is...im in the process of getting my lic right now and in NC you CAN NOT have indoor pets and get liced. so because of her not being liced she is not being inspected and so unless someone finds a hair and goes to her home no one would know...so what should i do?

WOW This thread got totally high jacked To me when I first saw this thread I was like OMG. I wouldn't have been able to fix such a problem if I lost my grandma. I was appauld by the insensativity(sp) I know this happened a month ago. But maybe it is the month of tragedy that I personally have had. It doesn't matter. This poor woman lost her grandma. Yes she had a problem with the dog. But was she reaching out out because if the dog?? Or for her grandma passing?? Sorry I had to put this in. I also have suffered loss in my family and maybe am alittle on the edgy side of this subject. Can someone please change this thread. And add a pet thread for sensitivity issues. I don't want people to jump me for this. To lovable_lauren3 My prayers are with you and yours. If you need someone to listen please PM me. I have had a loss myself. Not my grandmom but still a loss that hurt.

I have a Dog and two Cats. They are not allowed in the kitchen. I give the kitchen a good scrub before baking. I wear a hair band or net. I always use a lent brush on my clothes and put on a clean apron. My hands are washed and I use a hand brush to clean under and around my nails. Kind of like surgery.

I have a daughter and a son-in-law that is OCD when it comes to germs. If nothing else they keep me on my toes.

I've worked in resturants that look very clean on the outside. If I told you stories you would never eat out again. I also worked in a meat packing house. After that a hair don't seem so bad.

I have a Bullmastiff....talking a counter height 80lb dog and he's a puppy and only getting bigger and yes, he lives inside.

There are NO dog hairs in anything I cook or bake! Nor do I ever have to worry about my dog sniffing or touching my cakes. I simply don't put them anywhere near where he could hope to reach. Ensures that neither the dog, my 2 kids or my hubby can touch them either! As soon as I finish anything or if I need to step away, it's put in a covered container on top of a cabinet in our home office.

I decorate on a bar height counter that neither poochy or kids can reach. I also have an simple easy-clean kitchen. My entire kitchen has caesar-stone walls and counters and a stone floor. I can wash/sanitize my entire kitchen prior to baking.

Since I am in CA, I only bake/decorate for fun and give my cakes away. Nobody has ever complained or turned down a free cake and they all are fully aware that my giant pooch is usually sleeping in his crate in my dining room while I bake.

Wow, look like home bakers with pets, husbands and "sticky children" both took a beating this time on this thread.

By the way, my kitchen is impecable, and I have both pets and a "sticky child" (and a husband).

geez way to discourage a cake central friend guys!!! I think you made a beautiful cake(s) and you did fantastic under pressure Lauren. I would have thrown in the towel and started crying. I have a dog, three cats and two kids and maybe my house isn't the cleanest on the block, but my kitchen certainly is. Just because a dog is in the house, it doesn't mean we all live like pigs. I think it's perfectly acceptable to have animals indoors while you cook as long as you're sanitary but accidents do happen, that's why there's a disaster forum!!! Clearly the cakes were seperated, if they were stacked I could sort of see why everyone is in an uproar but they're all seperated. Maybe I'm being too harsh on everyone that is against animals but poor lauren came on here looking for some encouragement and the bulk of the feedback was really negative.
