I need to come up with an idea for a sheet cake. Its for a birthday which the person collects all kind of mouse things. I'm also looking for a cute saying to put on the cake. Any ideas would be a great help. I need to make it this saturday.

what if you cut and assembled your cake around a couple of tubes (like tunnels) through the cake...then make cute little fondant mice peeking out?

Or maybe make the cake look like swiss cheese with the same little mouses?

Does it have to be a sheet cake? If so, how about baking a mouse into it for her to find? Sounds gross, but what about some hershey kiss mice with those chocolate sprinkles that look like mice have been there all over it? Can't think of a saying right now, will get back w/ you if I think of something.
Hope this helps get the wheels spinning.

Here's an idea.
A round cake with a big slice cut out and iced to look like cheese with mice playing on it and peeking out of the holes.
Say "Have a very "mice" birthday or Happy birthday to a very "mice" person.

Could you torte the sheet cake on a diagonal and turn that layer around so one end is taller than the other and it looks like a huge wedge of cheese lying on its side? Then add a little mouse peeking out of a hole or dent in the cake.

Happy Birthday - Time to cut the cheese? (I'm sorry I couldn't resist, that was a little cheesy wasn't it icon_smile.gificon_lol.gif )

I made one of those wheels of swiss cheese cakes with the little cherry and almond eared mice on it. I wrote happy birthday to the big cheese. Everyone loved it and the mice - they were cute and delicious.

I also have made cup cakes with mice on some and little MMF wedges of cheese on others - that was a cool idea.

Maybe for a sheet little triangles of cheese for the border and some of the cherry mice for the top? Betcha it will be a hit whatever you decide.

Good luck!

If it were me, I'd like to try my hand at doing another glazed picture (I don't know what the exact name is). I read about it on these boards, and I've seen some really beautiful cakes done this way. I did a simple one with my Sophie cake, but like I said, there are some much more elaborate, beautiful ones that I've seen here.

Have you seen Jan Brett's Town Mouse Country Mouse? There are some beautiful illustrations in it. I'd use that as a sort of guide. I'd pipe an oval in the middle of the sheet cake. Then, in the oval I'd draw my picture (maybe a couple of mice in jackets and hats or bonnets... or maybe au naturelle). Then I'd fill it in with the colored glazes and add some flowers and bits. If you get a chance, you should flip through Brett's book. There is a border around each picture, usually made up of vines and flowers-- I think that style would look so cute on a cake.

I think the same technique would look cute done with a more humorous, cartoony-style of illustration. Anyway, sorry so long! Good luck!
