Well I do belive this is the ugliest cake Ive ever made. I woke up today with the baking itch. I didnt know what kind of desighn I wanted to do so I just kinda went with it, as you can see. lol I have never done the cornneli lace before but always liked the way it looked. I think mine is too big. Only the second time Ive made roses, I have to practice more! lol

*Note to self: Get off the blue icing kick! icon_lol.gif

I agree-I think it came out nice! And the roses arent bad-at least you can tell they are roses. Just wait til I do my first rose THEN you can say "ugly" lol!

I think it turned out great.

So what do you do with the cakes you bake just to bake? That's the problem I have. I ALWAYS want to bake but don't know what to do with all the stuff when I'm done! i can't see wasting it by throwing it away and we can't come close to eating all the stuff. Right now I have three different batches of cupcakes made in the house icon_lol.gif My husband just took two dozen cookies to work and I just emptied out the leftover crumbs in the cookie jar from a different batch. And if I had it my way, I would go straight to the kitchen after logging off and bake some more.

Wow. I wish all my cakes out this 'ugly' especially one that is for practice. I think it looks nice and you are learning how you would like your cakes and decorations to look (like smaller cornelli).

I think you did a GREAT job on the cake.....It's always fun to practice. in response to what should I do with all the cakes. Neighbors love cake, school events, fundraisers,co workers, friends, local church events. I am finding that people never get sick of cake

I think that you did a beautiful job, especially since you didn't have a design to work from.

Great job!!

That cake is really very nice! The blue color isn't bad either unless you don't like blue...What's wrong with the roses, they look great!

Maybe I'm missing something here! icon_smile.gif

You could have made the lace with a smaller tip to make it more delicate looking, but the way you did it is fine too. It depends on what effect you want. Next time try sotas, they're fun too.

i think your cake was just fine. i think that blue is beautiful especially for like a mothers or fathers day cake. by the way your roses are beautiful. i can show you some ugly cakes. i'll tell you what i like when you make your own flower than buying them if you have time, cause not one will look the same and that would be a nature affect vs all perfectly done. i've never seen 10 perfect flower together!

Your practice cake turned out so nice! You should be proud.

Vitade, you took the words right out of my mouth. I want to do so much practicing but if all the cake stayed here, none of my clothes would fit me anymore.

I want to give them to neighbors and such, but then how do you know if you're recipe is a keeper. Right now, I'm trying to find the perfect chocolate cake and I want to try it to make sure I like it too. I guess that's what the scraps from leveling are for.

It looks really good. Whenever I try to just wing it, well, I could show you what ugly really means! icon_lol.gif

I bring all my cakes into work. I practice too with 6" rounds and that way I can get two practice cakes for the price of one. Needless to say, I am expecting a big raise this year. :^)

I think the cake is wonderful. We are definitely our own worst critics.

I wanted to add that you can make cake dummies out of styrofoam to practice designs on. I have a few that I use when I want to practice a particular design element. I have also baked and frozen left over batter into small pans to pull out for practice---you know, to see how a cake would react (vs. the styrofoam). icon_surprised.gif

Thanks eveyone for the wonderful comments! Sorry I didnt respond sooner my pc blew up! hahaha

You guys are so nice! Lemme see if I can answer a few questions..About the blue, I love blue its my favorite color but I think I use it a little too much. You should see my countertop. lol

Leftover cake, well I usually make one cake a week just to practice and after I take a picture I cut the whole thing in half and give it away to my neighbors. I also have two sons. Sometime I do end up throwing some of it away though. I think I need a good cake dummy to practice on.

Thanks again for all the wonderful comments!
