My first official cake - christening

Well it was a roaring success. I tried covering a choc mud with ganache followed by sugarpaste. Although the ganache was very messy to work with, the cake tasted great. The baby in the bath ended up looking a lot like our baby luckily! No one could believe I made it myself. There were a lot of trial cakes to get to the fina though!

Even the hand piped writing didn't turn out too bad. There were many diasters though - the worst was when I dropped the spatula in my beater and broke it, before I had made the cake.

looks great. I will be making my first 'real' cake next week!! I sure hope my turns out as well as yours! I have read a lot of the cake disaster post and they have me scared. Especially if someone who has been decorating for awhile.
I have hope.

SO cute!!!! Can I ask, though....what is "mud" cake? I've seen you post about it before and was wondering then, too.

I thought mud cake was a world wide phenominon - obviously not! It is a really thick heavy cake, usually chocolate, sometimes caramel or vanilla. It is very rich and quite 'wet'.

Do they have mud cake in the US? The recipe I have is from an english book.

yes that was me with marzipan questions. I used it on the trial cake but the tast wasnt very popular. I used ganache as a base coat instead. Although it was messy and hard to work with it tasted great!
