Advice On How To Do This Cake...please

Hello All CC Members
I have attached a photo of a cake that i have been asked to do. I can see that it is fondant with some RI for the scroll work. The bottom tier has the luster dust which I am thinking was done with putting that painters blue tape to make the lines. Anyone with any advice I will take.
Thanks soo much

Wow, that is beautiful. Beyond my scope of knowledge though. Good luck and post a finished picture please.
Wow - a gorgeous cake!
Do you know who the creator is so you might be able to ask?
Other than that, I don't think they'd use tape - I'd be afraid the tape wouls stick to the fondant and leave little glue-y bits, but the technique works great on walls!
They might of freehanded the lines using a ruler and such and carefully handpainted it in. Or used a cardboard stencil to cover the areas not to be luster-dusted and airbrushed it? Or even did alternating strips of fondant - on luster-dusted, and one not?
Hmm....
The blue painters tape is probably what she used if not a stencil. Duff uses it on fondant and gumpaste all the time. I also used it on my football last week and it didnt stick or leave anything so your fine there. It also gives you a cleaner edge than if you did it with a brush by hand. I used an airbrush on mine.
Look like they used black ribbon on it and a shell or pearl border on the bottom. You could use either.
They covered their cakeboard in fondant also, using the same technique with super pear dust. The top tier looks like they just cut out circles and put it in various places.
Its a beautiful cake and if you break it down, it doesnt look too hard to do. Just time consuming. That is if you worked with fondant before. If your all new to everything then it might be a challenge.
I cant tell from the picture but it looks like they used gumpaste flowers on top. You could probably do the same thing with real flowers if your not up to making them.
I'd go with the blue painters tape as well. I don't think that board is covered in fondant. When you go to the larger version of the pic, the cake is actually on a mirror. Gorgeous cake though. Good luck!
Cool!! so the blue painters tape will work. That is what i was hoping someone would say. I have worked with fondant before. We will be using real flowers. The bride wants red roses......Thanks for all the input. The cake is due Oct 20th. Once done I will post a finished picture.
kre8iv_gal thank you! I was straining with the larger pic to see but I was sure it was on a mirror too. And not quite as complex now as if it were on a covered board. I'd say that's black fondant covering the top tier as well as the black bordering the white tiers. It's a gorgeous cake! Look forward to seeing yours when it's finished. It'll be very striking with red roses!
well..after getting all the advice from ya'll. I tell my bride how much the cake is gonna be and she says thats not in my budget. So she asks can we do it in buttercream and not fondant. I look at the cake and tell here sure it can be done in buttercream..but you want get that look like the bottom tier has. So now the cake is going to be done in butter cream. I think it will still come out well.
