Collin loves Cake Central. He will sit forever looking through the galleries and checking out everyone's pictures and has something nice to say about all of them to boot. He saw a gumball machine cake a few days ago and he just HAD to have one for his birthday. (which was good because I wasn't looking forward to making an Optimus Prime cake)
It's two 8" tiers stacked and doweled and then carved. Covered in fondant with gumpaste accents. The bowl is a plastic gold fish bowl.
Wow! What a great job!
Happy Birthday to Collin, pretty soon he can make his cakes with inspiration found here. Good for him!
Thanks so much everyone. He was so cute.. so very appreciative of the cake. The look on his face was well worth the hours of lost sleep and red hands. It took cutting into the cake for his friend Jason to believe it wasn't a real gumball machine.. .
I saw this cake in the gallery today, and I must say I am very impressed! I am planning to make one next month for a birthday. May I ask you a few questions? You did put a cake board between the two 8 inch tiers right? and used dowels in the bottom layer? Did you dowel the gumball part?
Jeanne you already know I love the cake and if you want me to I can copy and paste the instructions to Merissa if you want me to to save you the hassle of retyping

Thanks so much!! I am again overwhelmed with everyone's kind words about my cake.
Christi.. I already passed on those instructions before I saw your offer.. thank you for that though!
I know what you mean about Optimus Prime. I sort of squeezed out of that request from my son in August. He loves chess, so I worked in a chess board and went and got little transformer chess pieces for the top. Your gumball cake is just fabulous. I'll bet the guests were impressed too.
Hey can yall send me the directions to..this is one awesome cake!!! this look looks like it will work and all...hmmm ideas to make it work..lol..
