Yes, I finally used SatinIce on the gumbo cake last week. I had been using Wilton up until I found the SatinIce, because it's all I could find and hadn't attempted MMF yet (maybe this weekend I will bust out w/some?).
I picked up SatinIce in 4 colors at my local cake supply shop the other day for the prices mentioned on the Intotheoven site (thanks for that link! I may need it soon!
), and got green, purple, black and red.
When I served the gumbo cake, I was actually able to eat the fondant, a welcome change to explaining to folks "go ahead and peel that off..." Granted, I am not as much a sugar-holic as I once was, so I only ate a little of the fondant, but it soooo tasted not-offensive!
I liked working with the Wilton (in my limited experience), but it just tastes like what I imagine a sugary butt to taste like...gross!
I have heard of Fondex, but need to look it up. Being in my small apartment kitchen, having some readymade fondant is nice, but like I said I want to make a batch of MMF to play with. I have tons of colors to mix in (I LOVE Days of Sharing raffles!).
Maybe if we were to appeal to Wilton, they might rework their formula...that way, when our local cake suppliers are closed, we can hit the craft stores in a pinch?
Happy Rolling All!
