Wow.

So I'm sitting here trying to scramble together my rental kitchen (done) by the end of the year, because my original one fell through and the bridal festival is in January icon_eek.gif , new licensing, new facility, new insurance numbers, the works (done).

I sit at my computer and the phone rings, and it's the gal who's putting together the bridal festival (5,000 brides expected!), and she asked me to donate the cake for the $25K wedding package that they are giving as a prize at the festival.

Wow again. So of course I said sure. TV spots start running this month, and of course I get the publicity....hmm. Too bad I don't HAVE A TV.

It hasn't sunk all the way in yet, but I'm pretty sure this is a really big deal.

Heh,

What's funny is I'm cynical enough to be thinking,

"So, did they call me because I'm good and have a small, intimate feel to my business? OR...is it because I'm the 'new kid' on the block, and no one else who's been baking around here longer than 5 minutes wants to donate a freebie...?" icon_surprised.gif

DH said the latter is more likely true. He's a advertising wiz, and he was like, "Not to hurt your feelings, but I'll guarantee you that you probably weren't the first person they called..." lol Nice to keep my feet on the ground anyway.

Ah well. I'm looking forward to it anyway--I think it'd be a ball to do a cake like that for a bride who wins a free wedding. Hopefully whoever wins it will really appreciate it and not be someone who already could have spent the $20k on her wedding, now THAT would make it really fun.

Well, even if you're donating the cake, think of all the free publicity you'll get! Congratulations and good luck!

Congratulations on your selection! If you tell us where you are, perhaps someone in your area can record the TV spot/commercials for you.

Just be careful that they don't pass the word around that you donated - before you know it, others will be calling you, and your phone will start ringing off the wall.

That happened to a friend of mine. After the third donation in three months, she said No More!

Ah, don't worry...I have no problem saying "No, thanks. I gave already."

Lots of practice...lol
