Just checking to see if there is anyone else out there that will not get any sleep tonight because they are decorating? I took on more then I should have for this weekend. So I will be up all night long. No sleep for me today. Anyone else?

Been there, done that! That's how I spent last weekend. I will never again take on 3 cakes for the same day. I work a full time job then come home and decorate, it wears you down. I feel your pain.

Yup, and I'm out of shortening, which means I should just go to bed and finish frosting everything tomorrow. But there's always something to do...and right now it's rebaking a sugar-free birthday cake that came out like a hockey puck.

I am going to bed at a decent time. I work a full time job and had 4 cakes this week. Finished two last night and delivered them to work today. Got a 1/2 sheet cake for baby 1st birthday for a friend and a smash cake. I get tired and get sloppy, so time to put it down until around 5:00 in the morning.

I am up most nights, by preference. I am nocturnal by nature, after working evening and night shifts in the ER for many years.

Because I work for myself and have no one to answer to except me, I go to bed usually about 4AM and sleep till noon, work from 1PM or so through the afternoon, take the evening off and then work till about 3AM. Most of my clients prefer to pick up their cakes the afternoon before the party or whatever. Since I have only ever done one wedding cake, so far my schedule has never been a problem for anyone else.

But if I wasn't such a dedicated worker, I'd fire myself ... icon_lol.gif
or maybe I should give myself a raise. icon_wink.gif

Yeah....MUCH different for me next week, too! A big wedding that bought my BIG package ... appetizer, choc fntn, buffet, wedding cake .... and the reception is a 1-hour drive on top of it all. I'm going to start baking the (5-tier!) cake this weekend to put in the freezer. It's going to take 2 delivery veh's to get everything there. So I am REALLY enjoying this weekend! thumbs_up.gif

I've always been a night person anyway.....even when I was a kid. I am SO much more productive at night. I think it's because everyone else has gone to bed and there's no one in my way! Hubby is a morning person, so it's a wonder we've stayed together 20 years! His idea is to get up early and go to breakfast. I prefer to sleep in and go to lunch!

Same here! My husband is a "lark" and I am an "owl" icon_lol.gif
He is up at the crack of dawn and then asleep in his recliner at 7PM, if he is home from work by then, and I am getting my second wind at 7PM and ready for the long haul. I think if we were both on the same schedule, after 23 years of marriage, we would have killed each other by now. icon_wink.gif

Well, not really ...but sometimes icon_twisted.gif

I was just going to start a thread asking "why am I here???" It's after 3:00 AM and I have decorations to make for 2 cakes. I am the self-proclaimed worst procrastinator in the entire world....I have drifted from the kitchen to the office and find myself typing aimlessly....

will anybody else join Procrastinator's anonymous?...

*raises hand slowly* darn you people!... I try to sneak about acting normal and not let everyone know that I too take on too much work for 6 people and rarely sleep during big weddings.

Add me to the list. I am working on a wedding cake for Sunday...and the groomscake ...oh yeah...I'm doing the catering and flowers too <yawn>.....

Well I finished everything finally at 4:30 am, well finished as far as I can until assembly. So I went to bed for an hour and a half. It's now 10:00 and even the assembly is done. Oh how I hate icing those cakes. Crumbs, crumbs, crumbs. I hate crumbs. So it's my sister in laws bridal shower today. I made 3 dozen decorated cookies (wedding cake, bridal gown, hearts and oval cameos and wine glasses. Then I decorated 1 dozen cupcakes to match the 4 tiered cake that I made. I also made a 20 inch square with a bridal dress on it. I will post pictures tonight probably. They are far from perfect but I think I did OK. thanks for all your help and inspiration.

Sure! Well... maybe later icon_lol.gif

I kinda surprised myself today... I just finished a big two-layer cake for a shower (my first 'paid' job - yay!) at 2pm, it's not due to be delivered 'til 6pm, and I didn't have to stay up late for a change. I scheduled myself to do the gumpaste and the RI decorations earlier in the week, made everything up ahead, etc. and today just had to ice the cakes, decorate and assemble.

It's so not like me, lol!

I am SUCH a night owl. My new husband is too - it's wonderful.

My ex was an early bird, and he was soooo self-righteous about it. Ugh. Ok, you to to bed at 8pm, and get up at 5am. I stay up and work around the house til 2am (after working a full-time job), get up at 7am, and you work harder than me??? Whatever.

Yep...if you're like me...have the FN on in the background while decorating...then too lazy to get up and change the channel when the infomercials come on....
I heard all about the tummy-roller thingy that massages you while you excercise before I rolled my eyes and changed it to Bloomberg!
