I remember when I first started decorating I didn't know to cover my boards . Then I covered them in plain foil. Then I splurged on Wilton's Fanci-foils. Now I'm just plain bored with white, gold and silver. I hoped some might share where they are getting their great foils and coverings.
flower shops you can get other foil now its not FDA grade but decorators have been using it for years... you have to be careful some of the darker colors smear off when you wipe off the extra frosting that gets on the board... So even put sran wrap on top of the foil and then place the cake down....
I use decorative wrapping papers for a lot of my cake boards. First I wrap the board in the gift wrap, then I cover it with cellophane. Since there are an endless variety of beautiful wrapping papers out there...you'll never be bored agian! (Plus, you can coordinate the wrap with the theme of the cake.)
I do what cookieman does except I use clear wrapping cello paper to go over the decorative paper.
Oh, that's what I meant by cellophane--clear cello wrapping paper. Sorry for any confusion.
You can also use clear contact plastic - the clear stuff you cover books or line shelves with, I put this over materials, other paper wraps etc. I wash it first though.

Thanks all! Can't wait to try all the great ideas. Is the cello the same you use to wrap up gift baskets? And at the florist, do I ask for a roll of foil? I love the idea of coordinating gift wrap too. No more boring boards for me!
You could probably use the clear stuff you use to wrap gift baskets. I use the stuff that comes on a roll in the wrapping paper section.
Just wanted to add that you can get the clear contact plastic (self-adhesive) and also the cello wrap by the roll at the dollar type stores.
