I have to make a large tiered cake for an event next week and can not find a supplies store anywhere. I live in Heidelberg. I don't have enough time for items to be shipped and am desperate for a local place to get the items I need such as cake separator plates, dowel rods, etc. Please help!
I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you, I just wanted to say my husband was born in Heidelberg. I thought it was neat that you're living there. Good luck with your search, maybe you could improvise by using other things? Dowel rods can be found at craft stores, you could probably find something to use for the separator plates at a craft store as well.
Don't know about local placers but why don't you just call suppliers in Germany
here are a couple of sites
www.tortissimo.de
www.backfun.de
www.cake-company.de
www.hobbybaecker.de
Maybe they can overnight it, you should be able to find contact info on the websites or they might be able to help. I have ordered from them and they were actually quite fast, sometimes I had the stuff within 3 days (I usually order when I am in Germeny in summer)
Hi there I understand that these were posted a while ago, but I was wondering if anybody has found a supplier in or around Heidelberg in Germany? I have just moved here 8weeks ago and very surprised to find nothing local .. I would appreciate any advice .. Thank you
I don't live in Germany, but when I'm there, I order from the above listed links. Another one is www.tortenkram.de
Cake decorating is quite new in Germany, but we're working on making it more prominent. There willl be a cake exhibition in Hamburg (4th)in Oktober, annother very new one in Cologne next April
Google "Die Tortenshow" Hamburg
Cake Cologne will be online soon, just in case you would like to participate or just to visit
Hi Ursula thanks for that .. I am trying to find my way around and get baking ASAP I appreciate ur help..
It's not on the fourth, it's just the fourth one
Hang in there, a lot of us Germans order from England, or ask relatives and friends visiting the States to bring stuff. It's not allowed to sell from home in Germany though, if you do it on base, it's prob. different, but then you will be able to get a lot more from the PX than you would find in a normal German grocery store. Thanks to my sis, (she married a soldier) I was able to see, what they have there, for cake decorators, that's the most you can get in a "grocery store. At least nowadays we have the internet, prices are a bit higher, than what you are used to, but if you need help, send a pm, I try to do what I can. Just remember, I am in China and we have a time difference of 6 hrs to Germany. I can translate, look for stuff etc, just let me know and enjoy Germany, it's not that bad (except for the cold weather in winter)
