gdixon-Marzipan is good stuff! Tastes mucho better than fondant! Can get a bit pricey tho as a covering unless it is a small cake. Actually for a newbie story from a few years ago. When I started seeing all those fancy smooth cakes in magazines and books, I thought they were made using marzipan lol!

Well, i will reallywould like to know what this satin ice is all about, as i too have never heard of it. And for marzepan, it's expensive, and very sweet.
most of the bakery's here in holland use that for there cakes or fondant.
here at my house they don't care for fondant or marzepan, they are bc addicts.

I don't like the taste or texture of rolled fondant. I don't use it.....recently I got a wedding cake order....when the bride called me she asked if I used fondant.......she doesn't like it and couldn't find anyone who didn't use it.....it is very pretty......but all I see is wasted money and time when people peal it off and lay it aside.

I use a fondant called Fondx, and I've found its very easy to work with and tastes so much better than Wilton's. However Wilton fondant comes in handy at 8:30 at night when you've run out and Michael's is still open.
You can get Fondx at cakevisions.com.

Does anyone have a good recipe for homemade rolled fondant. I've been reading the posts on fondant and so far I can tell that no one likes the taste. I'm just starting out and am still doing research in order to start my first project. If I use the recipe in this site will it tase good or is there anything I can add to make it better. ??

The pettinice fondant or Satin Ice is better than Wiltons, very easy to work with, does not stick like the Wilton and you can use various oils to give it a better flavor.
Wilton has some has said is handy for last minute rush jobs. However I used ribbon instead to hide the flaws instead of using the Wilton fondant
