Does anyone know where I can find cardboard that is food safe to use as a backing for my cookies. I would like to add a backing so my cookies don't break as easily. I would package them in polybags attached to a piece of cardboard. I think this would give them the extra strength they need so they won't break with handling. Thanks!

I can't say that I have ever seen any cardboard for cookies. I might think that the cardboard would not stay with the cookie unless it was glued to it and I do not think that would be good. I will be watching to see if someone has a recommendation.

I've never seen a product specifically for this purpose, but maybe you could cut your own from the wax-coated cake boards?? Another option might be to put your cookie in the bag and then attach the bag to the cardboard. Then you could use any kind of cardboard you want since it won't come in contact with the cookie, and it could be decorative as well. I'm just brainstorming here.... I'll keep thinking.

I agree with the cake board idea just cut down to size. If you wrap your cookie tight and use your twist tie up high on the stick the baord & cookie won't shift. good luck

It was a total pain... but I cut pieces of cardboard to size and then wrapped each one in cake foil. Slid that into the bag then the cookie and tied with ribbon. It looked really nice. Total pain. I only had to do 50 of them. I went to Kinko's and used their paper slicer because the cardboard I found was big and too unwieldy to cut with scissors. I did cut it to fit into the slicer. (My DH was having them create workbooks and I did ask permission.)

You can use a tiny dot of RI or chocolate to adhere the cookie to the foil covered board, but it isn't a solid hold. It will pop off with a little pull. But if you don't jostle too much, it'll hold for transport.

I am wondering about the waxed cardboard used with candy bars. I know it exists -- just don't know where to get it.

I guess I am not sure whay your cookies are breaking? It seems that you might want to tweak the recipe or change the package method for shipping, because individually cutting cardboard sounds like a huge pain.

You could try
* Shrink wrapping...
* lay cookie flat in box, the cover with paper shred, then another layer. I did this in a 12x6x6 box, got 15 5" cookies in a box and then put inside another box.
* if inner box is small enough stand cookies up and put shred between.

I use this method all the time and almost never have cookies break. Just make sure the outer box allows you to put packing peanuts in a nice layer.

Thanks everyone. I have seen cookies at our local supermarket with this cardboard. They get the cookies from a place called Starlight Creatives. They have a website. I suppose I could just ask them where they get the cardboard but I don't know if they would answer (I am really not a competitor because I only "sell" my cookies to my friends (and their friends!). I can try what you all have suggested. I know there is something out there available but I just don't know where to get it. I have also wondered where they get the cardboard for candybars like Honeydukes questioned. Anyone else???
