I recently did a cave diver cake (I'll get pics up soon) for a friend's boyfriend. She called me the next day to tell me that he refused to let anyone cut the cake. To my knowledge, the cake has still not been eaten. It came out well, I did an 8" cakes that were frosted and carved to look cliffs or a rock formation. I carved a hole in the top (think volcano) and filled it with blue gel and placed the head of a diver in a wet suit breaking the surface. On the cake board I made his lime green fins and a replica of his scooter. Now, it could be that he thought it was too pretty to cut up OR (here's where I'm having trouble) I know he hates sweets and I wonder if he was simply disinterested in having cake. Never heard of someone refusing to cut/eat the cake...

Sounds like a compliment to me. Maybe he wanted to show it off a while longer before it was cut.

It's a compliment. When I made a makeup bag cake for a 16 yr old, she wouldn't let her family cut it for two days she loved it so much.

This is a compliment. I few times I have given Tiffany Box cakes as part of a graduation gift and the girls didn't want to "ruin" them by cutting into it. I finally told them If they didn't eat it, it would eventually go bad and smell funny and I would cry. They eventually cut their cakes and everyone enjoyed them.
So, don't be offended.

Definitely a compliment. When I made the Colonel's birthday cake, he refused to cut it until he could just "admire it" for awhile. Kudos to you-best compliment you can receive!! thumbs_up.gif

It is a huge compliment I did a frog for my neighbor in July and she still has it. She said she couldn't let anybody eat it.

I'd take that as a compliment, I once did a cake for a co-worker for the birthday of her friend. She took the cake to the birthday get together where 4 friends had dinner. The DH of the birthday girl shows up and tells her not to cut the cake, it's too pretty to cut. I asked the co-worker on Monday after how was the cake? She said she didn't taste it and told me what happened. She was very angry about what happened because he did not pay for the cake the 3 friends did.

Its definitely a compliment. I remember the first time that happen to me and the girl did not cut it for five days! I nagged her mother reminding them that it was perishable products that needed to be consumed....but the young girl refused until she was ready. It really bothered me at first, because I use the very freshest of products.

Now when I hear it is happening again, I just smile.

Can't wait to see your cake!

This reminds me of my father in law. I made him a NY Yankees cap and he didn't want anyone touching it or cutting it. He preserved it by putting on top of the bar until it disintegrated into thin air icon_lol.gif eeewwwww icon_lol.gif

This is definitely a compliment thumbs_up.gif

I have taken cakes to work and my fellow employees refuse to cut into the cakes that I make. I'm not an expert cake designer because usually most of my cakes are from ideas from people right here at CC. But, there was one cake I made that I had never made before and everyone at work said it was too pretty to cut into. If I don't do the cutting, it might not get cut into at all....ok, it would eventually because everyone at my work are little sugar-aholics... icon_biggrin.gif So, definitely take it as a compliment. You did a great job obviously. Post some pics for us.

Definitely a compliment!

I recently made a white puppy cake for a friend at work, and she said that it was too cute to cut, and that she was waiting for it to bark before she cut it! I told her that it was meant to be eaten, and that if she wasn't gonna cut it, I wasn't gonna make another cake for her, LOL! Maybe I should've put a little voice chip in it! LMAO
