I am fairly new to baking. I tend to use more box mixes than recipies from scratch. Since you people are the experts which box brand gives the best results with extenders? Thanks icon_biggrin.gif

I seem to have the best luck with Duncan Hines. It rises higher.

i personally like pillbury. but you may find you like different flavors in different brands. best thing to do is experiment and find out for yourself! it's alot of fun and great practice! good luck!

I have to agree that Duncan Hines is the absolute best. I have tried others and they just weren't as good to me.

Me too!!! Although, I do like BC Golden Vanilla. But I usually mix it half and half with white DH so it will rise more.

Thank you soo much. I must agree that from what I seen the other day when my brother's mother in law used Duncan Hines and it did rise a lot more than Betty Crocker's super moist. thumbs_up.gif

I have the best luck with Pillsbury on most flavors, but Duncan Hines runs a close 2nd for me.

I have used both BC and DH. When I switched to DH, my father mentioned that my cakes were so much better. I guess he preferred the DH. It's all I use now.

And I will argue Pillsbury...to the death! icon_wink.gif Betty Crocker will do as a substitute, but I absolutely hate DH. So many people love it, I almost wonder if I make it wrong icon_redface.gif

I'm usually in the minority with this question -- I LOVE Betty Crocker. I do use the others sometimes if a certain flavor is not available from BC.

I have had great success with Pillsbury and it seems to rise for me no problem after doctoring it up. I use DH as my backup. The only cake flavor I use only DH for is Strawberry. Not that this matters much to me but Pillsbury is also cheaper and seems to go on sale more.

I like Betty Crocker the best. I've been using DH lately because it's a LOT cheaper than BC. I got a higher, better tasting (IMO) cake with BC. I've tried pillsbury and don't like it at all. Tasted ok but they fall completely apart on me for some odd reason.

I know most of us probably add something a little more to the mixes. Maybe different mixes just "react" differently to the add-ins?

I usually use the BC Golden Vanilla for most all of my cakes, and people love it. I doctor it up with the extender recipe.
