I wanted to try the MMF, he is the cake I made. This stuff is wonderful! a little messy to mix up, but so easy to work with. I do have a question to all of you experts out there: on a two tiered cake like this...how do you keep it from leaning a little to one side or the other. That is the only problem I am having. The top tier is on a cake board but I didn't use any dowels...is that what I am doing wrong?

Let me know what you think of the cake

Thanks....do you put the dowels through all the layers....top and bottom?

No, you just put the dowels in the bottom layer, for support of the cake on top. If you are doing more than two tiers. You do the same for each layer, dowel the bottom tier under the top tier.

You would put the dowels through all the layers at one time if you were going to do sculpting or a really tall stacked cake.

I have done a four teir cake using this method and not had any problems.
I was reading one of the forums that was talking about using straws for this purpose, but I have not tried that yet. One of the Moderators shows using these really big straws in the demonstration of the baby in the flower pot. go look here....http://www.cakecentral.com/logo.php?picturename=images/articles/anne/pic19.jpg -- there is a link attached to the paragraph beside the picture - bubble tea straws....it is a link to ebay. Might be worth a try.

I had some leftover chocolate and just drizzled it on waxed paper. Decided to use as decorations icon_biggrin.gif

so far i've just used straws...kind of easy to work with and i have them on hand. but i haven't done anything superbig so far so a heavier cake may crush them or something. these are regular drinking straws we had in the house - in fact we don't like using them for drinking cause they are kind of skinnier than normal straws (50 cents for 200 pack at walmart is not always a good deal!)

Thanks, I want to do a cake for the county fair coming up the middle of August. I was thinking about doing something similar for entry. What do you guy's think.

I was also toying with a piano idea...I have the Wilton Piano Pan (got from e-bay) but it doesn't have the legs, keys and all the little goodies that came with it. Ihave a nice staff of music mold that I was thinking about doint with the candy melts and decorating.....still in the planning stages for the Fair entry....any suggestions?

Also, I am so exicted, I have a chance to be a Wilton Instrustor!!! I had signed up but no openings in my area. An employee of my dh told me about an opening at Jo-Anns nearby and I called, sent her some pictures and the MMF was one of them. Keep your fingers crossed icon_smile.gif

Your cake is gorgeous! I love the drizzled chocolate decorations. I would have never thought of that.

Someone posted on here that McDonald's staws work great for support. I have used them several times and they worked great. I have also used straws I bought in the store with no problems. I have only stacked 2 cakes so far though.
