Thank You Jesus!!!!!!!!! Just Passed Inspection.
Business By CrystalsCakes5 Updated 29 Nov 2006 , 3:38am by CrystalsCakes5
I just had my home kitchen inspected and I PASSED!!!!!!!!!
Yeah Yeah Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been worried to death waiting for today to come. It was pretty simple and I am so excited!!!!!!!!
My only guidelines are.....
No pets
Sanitize with bleach
Wear hair restaint when baking
Thermometer in fridge
Ingredient labels on everything
That is pretty much it. I can advertise, sell to retail stores, sell at farmers markets, any kind of bake shows or festivals.
I cant believe it. I finally got my butt in gear and now I am good to go.
Well now its time to get busy baking and testing!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to everyone here from CC for all your wonderful tips and advice and recipes and techniques and encouragement, and willingness to share.
Where are you and do you have a separate kitchen, or your regular one? congratulations!
Holy cow good for you! Congratulations.
That is my dream! Where are you located? know anything about New York?
Congrats !!!
My dream is to open a business at home first then hopefully expand to a shop. My problem is the pets thing. We have 2 dogs that pre-date my obsession for cake decorating! In my state we are recommended to have a seperate kitchen too which will require some saving up.
Your certainly the envy of a few of us today!!!
LOL
Best of Luck with your new venture!!
Thank you all so much!!!!!!
I'm sorry. I should have said that I am in N.C.
I am allowed to use my regular kitchen. Was told to keep my bakery ingredients separate from personal.
The one thing about labels is that I cant list it as butter, veg. shortening, sugar, eggs, etc.
I have to list it like this....... butter ( ***, ***, ****, ) veg. shortening ( ***, ***, ***, ).
I have to list every ingredient that is in each ingredient that I use. Does that make sense?
And also on the labels, I have to use a code that stands for the date I baked that item. Such as, A for January and B for Feb. plus the day and year.
Exp. A2706 = January 27th of 2006
I can hand write this on the label.
Also you have to put Name of bus., address, and phone number.
He gave me an inspection report today and said that is my original and just make some copies to give to whoever would require one from me.
My plans now are to pick out some recipes and try out a few each week on friends family and neighbors and such and record which ones I want to go with and try and set up a few days a week at some local farmers markets.
I really want to get a couple of weeks in before the Holiday season is over.
I am anxious to see how farmers market will work out for me. It really helps that they are usually open during the week also and the bigger ones are open all year round.
Chrissyconfections,
That is exactly what I am dreaming about also. I wanted to actually make sure I could get inspected before I really even tested out to many recipes to give away, because I would have hated to got something good going and then not be able to do it legal. I hope to one day own my own little cottage type bakery.
Thanks to everyone!!!!!!
That is awesome!! What part of NC are you in? The Farmer's Market in Asheville is just wonderful, I love that place!! I am from the other side (Southern) of Columbia and we take day trips there!! Best of luck to you!!! I am so envious of you people who can bake for a living!!! I would be happier than a hog in a mud bog if I could!!!!!
Thanks everyone!!
SCPATTICAKES,
I am about 15 mins from Charlotte.
I am about 10 mins from Lincolnton.
I can throw a rock to Hwy. 321
Asheville I believe is about 1 hour or so from me.
It would be worth the drive if they have the business.
Do you notice any of the people there selling baked goods? Do they look professional, do they look busy? Anything else you can tell me would be great.
There is a NC farmers market near the Charlotte Douglas Airport in Charlotte. About 20 mins from me. I want to go there one day and just check everyone else. Especially prices and presentation.
Thanks again everyone!!!
Crystalscakes5....WOOHOO!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!! I'm also from NC...in the Startown area of Newton...about 5 minutes from Lincolnton. Chris Packer, our NC Dept. of Ag inspector just called. He's coming NEXT WEEK...well, he'll call on Monday, and line it up for next week!!!!!!! That soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, tips...I need to know about these labels. Can I print these off with printer labels??? Anything that you can share with me, I'd appreciate it greatly!!! I'm so excited for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WooHoo!!!!
Amy
Thanks to everyone for all the congrats!!!! You guys really know how to support someone.
Cakesbyamy,
Thats the guy who came here today. He is pretty nice and easy going.
The labels yes, can be printed on printer labels. Just as long as you put your name, address, phone #, and all ingredients, and the date code.
Did you read my first post about the listing of your ingredients. You must list the ingredients that are in each ingredient that you use. And of course you list them from most to least.
I am going to start out and make templates for the recipes that I use the most. Then all I have to do is go to that template and print it when I need it.
Then he said you could just hand write the date code.
As far as printer labels, do those come in different sizes? The size of your label could depend on how much info will fit on one. I would try and see what my longest label might need to be and go with that one for all of them.
I plan to try and make my name and address stand out with some creativity and then the rest just generic print.
Not sure if I answered your questions about the labels, so please ask me any question you may have.
Thanks to everyone!!!!!!!11
