Hi Everyone I would like to know if you would recommend adding a cake mix extender to a Huncan Hines box mix? Thanks!

there was a recipe i saw on here to add one box of vanilla pudding, one cup of sour cream, 4 egg whites and one/third cup oil - instead of the box directions. it works better for carving, as it denses up the cake a bit, yet still moist and light like a mix.

I use this extender recipe for my Duncan Hines mixes:

Follow the box instructions and BEFORE you mix, add the following:

1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 cup sour cream
1/3 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla

I've used this on the Classic Yellow, Devils Food, and Dark Chocolate Fudge with GRAND reviews....EVERYONE loves them! And, they taste more like scratch!

According to this recipe (found here on cc), it makes 3 9" layers instead of 2. It's PERFECT for a 9x13 pan to be nice and full with little leveling.
