Just wondering if it is worth the investment... Does anyone own one? If you do, could you tell me if I should buy one? If it's the next best thing under the sun?? icon_cool.gif Here is a link...

Wouln't that leave ring marks on your fondant? It is a series of concentric circles- cut & put back together right?
I read somewhere that you can make your own with foam board and contact paper. Haven't tried it yet because of the probability of leaving marks. I'll be curious to hear what you think of it! If it works- It's worth the $$!

I can't even begin to imagine spending that much money on a chunk of plastic. If it works I'm sure it's great and helpful and all of that, but wow, that's a lot of sold cakes to pay for it.

I asked this same question about 9 months ago and got a lot of negative feedback about investing $200 in a fondant lifter made of plastic.
The only thing about all the negative feedback was---no one commenting had ever used one.

Since this was a HUGE investment for me, I thought about it long and hard and finally talked to a few people who actually owned one. They all loved theirs.

So I broke down and finally bought one.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! How did I EVER go so long without one!!!!????
It is a GREAT investment. I am now able to roll out my fondant, pick it up without tearing or stretching it, and center it the cake with ease. And FYI, there are NO circles on the fondant.

You simply sprinkle with cornstarch, roll out the fondant. lift the outermost ring. The fondant adheres to the outer ring. Center the fondant over the cake and drop the ring down. VIOLA! You will find that the fondant smooths easier and has no wrinkling.

It has cut my time with fondant literally in half! No tearing, stretching or trying to recenter the fondant.

MY Fondant lifter and MY Sugarcraft gun are the BEST investments I have made this year so far! thumbs_up.gif

What is this 6.00 alternative you have? I can't see spending so much on something as that one on caljavaonline.

Couturiere I am soo tempted now! I am a gadget freak and if something makes anything easier I am all over it!

Another question - how large of a cake can you do with it? I tend to make very tall cakes. When I stack them I tend to do them 6" high, never less than 3+ with fillings.

One more - only does round cakes or can you adapt for square?

Thanks for the info!

I wouldn't attempt to do a square cake with it. But I think if you make tall cakes this would be IDEAL for you. You will have a much easier time covering and smoothing it. Just use a wider ring. I think they told me this will accomodate up to a 20 inch cake. I bought mine from Cal-Java. You might check with them about specifics. They are very customer-friendly!

I will check with them, I just don't know that it will be big enough, if I have a 12" cake that is 6" high then I have to roll out fondant to 72" at least right? I REALLY want this to work for me. Need to do a bit more research. Thank you!

Sweet Results,

I believe you would roll the fondant out to 24". 12"(the width of the cake) + 6" (the height on one side) + 6" (the height on the other side) = 24"

Before I pay that much for the real thing, I may try to make my own with the foam board and contact paper then. $4.00 for the board + $2.00 for a roll of contact paper = a whole lot of $$ saved!

No problem - that's what I figured! Plus, I couldn't imagine rolling out a 72" fondant circle!!! That's 6 ft!!

Hi, if you have a 12"cake x 6" tall, it would be 24" not 72"... and you are right, this gadget does not work with a square cake!

And everybody, thanks for sharing your info and experiences!! Now I have to make up my mind, it is a LOT of money but seems like a really cool thing to have!! Maybe my DH can come up with something... will let you know! icon_lol.gif
