Painting Colors In Chocolate Molds

I am just starting to dabble in using chocolate molds and candy melts. My question is that when you use a paintbrush to put detail colors in the mold before the main color, do you do something to the brush (coat in shortening maybe) so the color you are using does not firm up and stick on the brush so badly? Is there something else I could usem maybe toothpicks?
I have always used toothpicks and have thinned my colors with crisco so they don't stick to the toothpick badly. However, lately I have been putting my colors in parchment bags and laying on a heating pad to keep melted. It works great. I do ALOT of these. If you have any other problems --PM me ![]()
I also thin my colored chocolate with oil. I wipe the brush clean after each color, with a paper towel.
