Royal Icing Recipe without Meringue Powder

Hi all

I want to make royal icing for decorated cookies but all the recipes here seem to require meringue powder as one of the ingredients which is not sold here where I come from. Any good royal icing recipes that does not require meringue powder or uses egg whites instead?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

I usually make my own royal icing with egg whites , pure icing sugar and a couple of drops of lemon juice.

I don't have exact measurments I usually just beat the egg whites until they are bubbly and then add the icing sugar little by little which I am still beating until I get the consistancy I want and somewhere in between I add the lemon juice.

Hope this make sense, Good luck

I always do the same thing that Annalisa does.

The only thing different with mine is that I add the lemon juice or cream of tartar, then I beat the egg/acid mixture for about 2 minutes before adding the sugar.

In the recipe I submitted, you can substitute the 6 ounces (3/4 cup) of water & 5 tablespoons of meringue powder FOR 5 or 6 large egg whites (NO yolk!!)
