Okay, I so hope ya'll pull through for me on this one.

So, I have a cake due tomorrow. It's a two-tiered cake for 80-95 people with a 'monkey' theme. The cake is yellow w/trees on the sides (just iced on - inspired from here of course). Well, the cake topper is supposed to be a tree of RKT covered in fondant with monkey (from the Monkeys from Barrel) hanging from it. Well, it 3:30 AM for me and the tree SOOOOO did not work out. I kind-of don't want to try again tomorrow because I'll need to go to the store and buy fondant and more stuff for RKT and pray that it comes out.

So here's my question. This is the fifth cake I've done for this customer in since July (so it's a great customer), should I just call her tomorrow morning and explain that the RKT tree is not working out and if it's okay if I change the cake topper to a toy? I'll also lower the price and obviously not include the price of the toy.

She's a great customer and super nice, so I'm sure she wouldn't mind, but I just wanted to get some second opinions. Thank you guys sooooo much in advance!!!!!

I'm having a hard time invisioning what you are going for. But I just saw a cake with some really cute trees on top made of gumpaste. It is in the "children's birthday cake" gallery (a brand new post). I'm sorry I haven't figured out how to add attachments yet. I'm sure the customer will understand....whatever you do. I know I understand. Sometimes the ideas that work so well in our heads just don't come out like we'd planned.

Have you thought about making the trees out of paper. LIke using toilet paper or paper towel roles and cutting leaves out of paper. Then using the fondant monkeys as added decorations. The rolls should be strong enough to hold the fondant monkeys. Not sure how big your monkeys are.

Just throwing out ideas.

Sending lots of good cake vibes your way!

Thanks ladies! After getting some sleep (4 hours) I've decided to just buy a toy. I'm still feeling sleep deprived, so really don't think another attempt with RKT will be successful. I'm going to call the customer around 9ish or so to talk with her.

Now I've going to go decorate another cake because I craved a bit too much from the original cake.

(Sorry if I'm not making sense. Those 4 hours of sleep are showing.)

Okay. I get it now.
When I have to make something with RKT I crush the cereal up a little bit and use a little more than I would if I was making them to just eat. They seem to stand up a little better that way also.
