my aunt and uncle are finalizing the adoption on their baby boy next week and i wanted to make them a cake or maybe cookies but i don't really know what to do. any suggestions? there are no invitations for the dinner...its just by word of mouth. i also don't really know them to well since they very rarely spend time with our side of the family. so i really don't know what to do.

I think a congratulations cake of any sort would be very thoughtful. What an exciting time for them! I'm sure anything you do to celebrate the adoption would be appreciated!

Hi mxpark.
I did a welcome baby cake for my brother and sister-in-law who recently adopted a little girl. It's the three tiered cake in my gallery. You could probably just do a simple 8-inch cake in a boy theme. Like maybe make the cake in a shade of blue and make airplanes out of fondant and other "boy" items. Or, boween has a great cake that has animals as the accents. I would just browse the baby shower gallery as there are a ton of ideas there, just type in baby boy. Good luck!

i have a soft spot for those "teddies on the couch" themes. Maybe you could do one of these with two larger teddies on either side and one small on in the middle - with blue clothing on. just a thought....
i'm sure what ever you come up with will be appreciated and enjoyed. good luck!

I am adopted andd this is a poem written in my baby book. Maybe you could write it on a cake.
"Not flesh of my flesh
Nor bone of my bone
but still miraculously still my own
Don't forget for a single moment
that you didn't grow under my heart, but in it"

Good luck!

That made me cry! Too sweet! I thought of a little blue baby shoe sitting on a bigger cake with that poem on it or maybe welcome <baby's name>

like i said, there's something that just tugs at my heart when i see teddy bears on a cake.....call me sentimental or foolish! i started working on the figures for my x-mas cake today and of course had to include one. cute little fellow with a red bow tie. i've already named him "bruno".
there's a really nice chair for inspiration on collete peter's site. if you'd like to have a look at it, just go to www.colettescakes.com. click on "my books" on the left hand side and go down to the last book: "the art of decorating" and then into the heading "part 1V advanced cakes". it's the first cake listed, "easy chair"
i've been trying to figure out how to load the picture from the site so you could just see it here, but can't seem to figure it out right now.
best of luck on the cake. i can't wait to see it.
