If I'm covering a sports ball shape in fondant what kind of cake recipe should I use? Can I use a regular store cake mix or would it be too soft? I'm making a boob cake for my sister in law and I need to cover the cakes with fondant to make them look smooth but I'm not sure about the cake part? Please help and give my any advice on making this cake. I have plenty of ideas from the photo gallery. Thanks

I suggest using a chocolate or pound cake, they are a little firmer and hold up a little better than a softer vanilla or lemon. icon_smile.gif

I used a variation on the white almond sour cream cake and it held up well. My only issue was that it was too sweet and not super moist...(see watermelon cake in my pics)

You should be fine with a regular cake mix. But if you want to be on the safe side you can easily turn it into a pound cake (which is sturdier) by adding a box of instant pudding and an extra egg. Good luck!

Try Margie's Incredible Chocolate cake recipe here on this site...we made it this weekend and it really is "increcible" !! icon_smile.gif It's dense and moist...should be perfect for the ball pan!
