I think there's something in the psychology of pricing a cake. I agree with everyone about the price of this cake being way to low. I would have put a price of $60 on this one. For some reason, when people have to pay a higher price it automatically elevates the quality of the product. In reverse, when they feel like it was a cheap price, they think it's a cheap product.
Very true! When I was pricing out a spaghetti dinner for a client, I told hubby how the numbers worked out and I could charge an unbelievably low price and still make a profit. He told he I had to raise the price. "They will look at everyone else's prices, then they will look at your really low price and they will wonder 'what's wrong with HER food?' So you have to raise it."
mezzaluna If you read back through all the posts i have made you will see that i said i know it wasnt the right email to send at the time but when i sent it my feelings were hurt...I am only human and for you to say i sounded like a whiny 10 year old i dont appreciate..You tell me i was mean in what i said to her but did you see what she had said to me???? I had sent the email before i read any of the posts on here....I was nothing but nice to this lady from the beginning and she was a cow to me, Normally i am the kind of person that woulod have not even sent her a response but like i said i was hurt, I have never had anyone say things like this to me about something i try and take pride in....I wonder if someone attacked something you loved how would you feel?

Thanks everyone I think i have learned my lesson People say and do things when they don't mean to and i know i have done that, Things i said to this lady i mostly didn't mean but i said it....I was really upset as i already have considered giving up making cakes as i have very low confidence with my cakes, I look at everyone elses cakes on here then look at mine and i see i just don't compare....I react on the moment and know that is something i have to work on....But with the way i feel about my cakes then her sending this email i wanted to just cry, so i think i just went out and attacked her, So with that said please know that this is not me I am not a mean person but actually try to go out of my way to help people or make them feel good about them selves....Like i have said i am only human....

I always say excuse me when I have to walk in front of someone, you should see the look I get. They looked shocked that someone had manners.
I've also seen people say "excuse me" but use it for an excuse to BOWL YOU OVER. It's as if they are saying 'excuse me' but their actions are "get the h*ll out of my way".
LOL, you're right I've seen that too. But, really if you have to cross in front of someone because there is no other way around you really should say "excuse me".
Sometimes you have to laugh at the ones that are so wrapped up in their train of thought they don't realize that they are in the way and move.
I just love the ones that see someone they know and they both just STOP to chat. Never mind that no one can get around them.

It's not worth beating yourself up. You did no different than a lot of others would have, you were hurt, it happened. I guess that there are perfect people and they never made a mis-judgement would think of you as a whinny child. Count me as one that just thinks you are human.
Oh my gosh, Janette, it would be a book bigger than Harry Potter! I find it amazing that people think they are the only ones in the store and no one else has things to do and places to go, and we have time to stand right behind them all freakin' day!
I am a person who will move someone's cart out of my way if they are rude enough to park it in everyone's way. Or I LOUDLY tell my daughter "Move that abandoned cart so other people can get thru here!"
Dont forget the part about strolling (slowly!!) 4 abreast in an aisle so no one can get thru in either direction!

I'm also big on "excuse me" and I give credit to my first grade teacher, who would stand in the classroom doorway at lunch and recess time. Any kid who didn't say excuse me was pulled out of line and had to be the last one out of the room, plus the big lecture on manners that none of us wanted to have to get from her.
Janette Oh i know all about rude and nice people, Today DH and i went to chillis for lunch and as we were leaving in the truck we got stuck at a stop sign as there was way to much traffic...Some really nice person in the car tuning that had the right of way stopped and waved us through as well as 2 or 3 other cars..Really nice person to do that...Well i guess the person behind him didn't think so, I guess they were not happy and decided to go around the nice car on the inside of them, not that there was much road for them to do that , which i think it against the law isn't it? and then cut off that car and sat there in front of the nice car, HOW RUDE...I couldn't believe it Some people just cant be nice can they....
I think it is a very nice cake. Nothing wrong with it at all. Some people are never happy with anything.

Things have changed a lot if the police was there or got a complaint. That guy would have been in trouble with the law.
It's amazing that these people that seem to be in such a hurry usually don't get there any faster by acting like a fool.
Indy, I remember the days teachers were allowed to teach you social skills. Now they are condemed for things like that.

Now your little elmo cake is to die for...he is just the cutest little guy so don't worry about someone complaining....if they do they don't have any taste what so ever.

As for the customer, let her eat stail cake from Wal-mart.

I grew up in and around Raleigh and I have to say that in my experience the native North Carolinians are wonderful, warm people (if sometimes a bit insular). The rude people I've run into have always been transplanted Yankees (not that I have a problem with Yankees--they just don't seem to like being in the South).
I believe you did not charge enough for the cake and that might have been part of her problem. I have learned that people put more value on things when you charge more for it. maybe she was thinking that for the price, you must have used cake mix.
I really how can you use gas to mix up a cake bake it with gas/electricity, then spend all that time and money to buy fondant, cover and decorate the cake and only charge $30.00. I would charge no less than $60.00 for that cake. I dot turn on my oven for less that $50.00 but I live in a big city so maybe its a litle different where you are.
