I bit the bullet and put in a proposal at the church I have been renting from I have been paying $50 for the first 4hrs and $10 per hr after that, packing and unpacking equipment everytime I rented it. Well I put a proposal in and met with them today and it was accepted. I offered them $200 per mo and some storage for all my equipment and a key to come and go as I please and they accepted it. If I went somewhere else it would cost me 3 times that plus utilities. I am already booked up for the wedding season in 2007 and do a few birthday cakes per week so I figured it was time for a more permanant place and no more cheating using my own kitchen. I have been looking for an alturnative for a while and it was under my nose. So for all you church renters it doesn't hurt to ask if you need more use or a better way to pay rent.

Lucky you! That's a real bargain. If you already know how much you'lll be using the kitchen, then it makes complete sense to rent it by month. When you started out, did somebody came in for inspection? How about insurance? Did you have to get one for the church? I'm curious coz I'm considering doing it in church too, there's one practically across the street from us. TIA

How do I go about finding a church that has a commercial kitchen? I feeel that this would be the best option for me.

Thats awesome. I'm also interested in renting a church kitchen as well. I just need to find one, and figure out any legal stuff.

When I spoke to someone at the the Food and health dept they sugested I search for a church kitchen that had there food safe licience I went to the closest one to me and asked if I could use there kitchen and were happy to let let me then the inspector came to inspect it but she already knew about this one and asked me how I got it since it was the best one in town I have been working in it since I started in Feb. Just go to the church office introduce yourself and ask them if there kitchen is food safe and inspected and would they be interested in renting it and go from there. Good Luck.

I would like to find a church kitchen to rent. What do you do if their church members need to use the kitchen for things like dinners or activities? Those are usually on Fridays and Saturdays. Honestly I don't know how well I could decorate if there were a ton of people using the kitchen. What kind of arrangement do you have when they need to use it? I'm asking because I want to be prepared with options for any questions they might ask me. Thanks.

Okay, here's another question -- do you have to be a member of the congregation if you rent the kitchen?

When you say do a search, is there a way to search online? or did you just call around and ask if they had their food safe license?

Thanks

You don't have to be a member of the congregation. I went to 3 Churches and spoke to the Office Administrator and introduced myself and let them know why I needed a kitchen each one brought me through there kitchen and said they would have someone contact me not all responed but the one that I am working out of responded 3 days later. Then I contacted the food and health dept for an inspection and came out within a week. Got approved and ready for business in 2 weeks. I didn't call I went to them and asked. You will be suprised how many would like to help. I first went to my church and they said no they don't rent it out but afew months later I was told the opposite but haven't changed since the one I'm at they will bend backwards to make it work and want the kitchen being used. I just spoke to them yesturday so we can go and build the storage to suit my needs and have it locked.
P.S I was told by the food and health dept to go and check the chrches and they let me know about the one Im in so you might ask them which ones they have licienced and go from there.

Thank you SO much Sharon.

My church doesn't license their kitchen and in fact we're not allowed to do any cooking in it, just reheating. This is for insurance and other reasoning, so I have to look elsewhere.
