How do you set your price on 3D cakes? I have an order for a toilet cake and have no idea how to set the price? Any suggestions?? The lady is wanting to know a price tomorrow so she can figure out if it is feasible for her...

Any help would be great!!!

Thanks.....

Depending on how much cake you are going to use...my rule of thumb is to double the price and then go from there. for example I charge $30 for a regular flat 1/2 sheet cake, so if I am going to make something 3-D from a 1/2 sheet the minimum I would charge would be $60. Then if it is a really complicated shape, or has a lot of pre-work (like fondant or gumpaste accesories that have to be made in advance and dry) or a lot of detail then I charge $10 to $ 40 more on top of the $60.

I always start at $3/serving. And this is for the original cake. So if I am using one layer of 12x18 and cutting/stacking/carving I figure that 12x18 can feed 54 ppl, so my base price is $162 for the cake. no if's ands or buts... 3D's take time, they can either afford to pay me for my skill or they choose another option.
