Do you do a flat price or do you charge per slice or do you ary depending on what they want?

I'm doing my first non-family (paid) wedding. The bride asked me if I cut the cake and how much I'd charge. Has anyone asked you to do this? What is your fee?

Thanks! Amber

I usually give the bride a price after she decides on the cake and tells me how many people it will feed. I charge extra for more difficult decorations or fondant. If I charge per slice...I tell them at least 2.00.

I have never had anyone ask me to serve the cake. Most reception halls have employees that are very familiar with doing that. If you decide to do that...I would charge extra. You would need to also take into consideration how long you would be there serving...and include that in your price. Some decorators also charge an extra fee for delivering and setting up. I include all that in my final price that I give the bride. Hope that helps you some...I know it is difficult when it comes to prices!

For a groom's cake, I still charge the same $per slice as I do the wedding cake unless its very difficult.

I've been asked to cut the cake a few times. Once I agreed to it, and something came up that I absolutley could not do it, and I had to find a substitute! What a pain! I've said NO after that - my Saturday evenings after doing cake all week is MY time off. icon_wink.gif

When I said yes before, I charged $15 per hour that I was going to be there. It would have been nice to get all of my stuff before I left, but ....it's all what your time is worth to YOU.

I've noticed that alot of places have started to charge a cutting fee for cakes not made on their premises....maybe that is the case here and the bride figures you will charge less than the hall/restaurant will to cut the grooms cake??
