My husband is making my birthday cake and icing!!!! He is using a box cake mix that I had left over from months ago. He has to make the icing from scratch. He thought that making cakes was easy... This is too funny, he is complaining about having to sift the ps.
I told him that I would make the cake and he told me no... Does anyone else's husband make there birthday cakes or do they go to walmart? Mine usually goes to walmart, but now that I make cakes I told him no way. This is much more fun for me... icon_wink.gificon_twisted.gificon_razz.gif

Happy Birthday!! party.gif

My husband won't make me a cake. icon_cry.gif If I managed to get him to do one it would probably have canned frosting because he likes to pretend that he can't cook. Last year I let the kids decorate one, the year before I made my own and the year before that I didn't get a cake because I refuse grocery store cakes. It would only be amusing for me if my husband was going to decorate it though, he knows how to make a cake and icing even if he pretends he doesn't.

I dont think mine would even attempt so props to him for trying. this past year i got an icecream cake from maggie moos and you can pick out your own flavor combo so that was good. But never again will it be a walmart cake for me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU !!!!
I grew up with my mom making me German Chocolate Cake from scratch every year for my birthday. I remember all too well the year my husband tried to recapture that memory for me !!! He insisted doing it from scratch also, I must say his motives came truly from the heart but I am so lucky we weren't serving it to guests !!! LOL
After that I will make my own thank you very much and maybe I'll share if you're nice to me !!! icon_biggrin.gif

Luckily I have trained my 12 yr old dd to cook, so my dh is off the hook! She makes great cakes and cookies just like her mom icon_smile.gif. I can't wait to see your pics!

Mine would make it... IF I ask him to. He is a great cook. He helps me do alot of the cakes I do. He kows what to do. My b-day is so stinkin' close to Christmas, I don't do a cake. If I can't have a party... why have a cake.

My husband used to. It was so funny, because the cake would be from scratch and the icing was canned. There were so many crumbs that showed, and the darn thing was so dry the dogs wouldn't even eat it!

I miss that.

My husband baked my cake and put out decorations for the kids to decorate with. (1&3)

They were pushing the decorations like 2 inches deep into the cake... interesting huh? It was cute though.

My husband won't buy me a cake, because he said I will critique the crap out of it icon_biggrin.gif , so I usually get an icecream cake. My family lives in Baltimore, and we celebrated my birthday there this year. I kept telling my husband to get me a cake from Duff......he didn't though. He said if he got me the cake from him, I wouldn't be getting anything else. icon_lol.gif The thought had crossed my mind. Maybe next time though. I ended up getting a cake from Cosco, and for a grocery store cake it was pretty good.

The first year we dated, my husband made my birthday cake. He made a strawberry cake from scratch and a homemade icing. He was so proud of it.

His mom told me later that he put the cake in the oven and had forgotten the flour. He had to pull the cake out and mix the flour in. He wanted to crawl under the table when he found out his mom had told me. I would've never known if she hadn't told.

I thought it was so sweet. My mom was the only one that ever made my bday cakes and it was the first time a guy had put that much thought into my birthday. I was head over heels by that point.

Post a picture of it!

i was told by my mother(still live at home, i know not a husband but still) and many co-workers that i was not allowed to make my own cake this year. my sister sent me a flower bouquest that looked like a cake but made of flowers. I ended up having an ice cream cake even though i completely LOVE Publix cakes. Next year i think that i am just going to do it because i was to make a diet dr. pepper can. Does anybody else get asked incessantly if they had to make their own cake?

Oh how fun to have your DH make you a cake! thumbs_up.gif I would love to see pics when it is finished.
I would love for my husband to do that, but that will never happen icon_lol.gif At least he did surprise me with a cake this past birthday, though it was an ice cream cake. It was still very tasty and a surprise!!!

But I had to have a real bday cake, so I made one anyway! icon_wink.gif Just couldn't help it!
Happy Birthday!!!!!

DH, who can't boil water, decided he'd surprise me one year by making my bd cake. He used a boxed strawberry cake mix and added choc chips to it (his fav...but the chips all sunk to the bottom). Cake looked awful but tasted wonderful. God love him for trying. It's the only one he's ever made & only real cake I've ever had in our 20 + years of marriage. I don't mind making my own.....I love cooking and baking....my stress relief from the real world ! icon_biggrin.gif

Happy Birthday!!! I want to see pics of the cake too.

What a sweet hubby to do this for you. I can't believe all the other hubbies on here that have done it too. Mine would never do a cake but he did help me out with the frogs on the frog cake I did this weekend. I was just about to give up when he came in and helped me out. Couldn't have done it without him.

This is the funniest thread. I'm getting a lot of laughs reading everyones stories.

p.s. EmmyD, where do you get a flower bouquet that looks like a cake? icon_eek.gificon_eek.gif I would love to have one of those. No calories! Anywhere near Jax, FL?

My DH and my 2 boys bake me a cake every year and it's always a "secret" LOL!

I have pictures and video of them in aprons and the 3 of them working together to make the cake - DH sets the video up on the tripod to capture the moment.

Sometimes I do help them frost it and it is never fancy, but always cute.

Yes, since I've started cake decorating my husband has been making my birthday cakes. He's made two so far and I loved both of them. It is soo cute to watch him bake and decorate my cake! He tries so hard to get the icing smooth too! icon_biggrin.gif

Shame on MIL for telling the secret! I'd never rat out my son on something that special!

My DH would bake me a cake, but the kids jump in first. My son usually does it now since the DD is married and 3 hours away. But, we always get together and that's what makes my day!
