Was asked for a quote on a three tiered wedding cake. (10, 8, and 6 inch) Cake will have real flowers on it. All butter cream- That is really all the info I was given at this time. What would you charge??

I don't think I'd be able to quote that person a price without more information. If they want it covered in cornelli lace or basketweave I would charge a lot more. I would give them an estimate per serving. Tell them something like "between x and x amount depending on how intricate the design is" In my area, it would be 2.50 to 3.50 per serving for buttercream.

Not including the bride's layer (top 6 inches) you're looking at about 45 servings.

At a base price of $3.50 (my lowest quoted price for basic buttercream) I'd charge $158.00. That doesn't include the price for the flowers, delivery, stand rental, etc.

Those things you'd want to add on to the price of your quote. If you don't, you'll make nothing at all on the cake, perhaps even lose money.

Best luck, and POST PICS!! thumbs_up.gif

My basic buttercream wedding cake starts at $2 per serving. But I think it depends on a lot of factors like where you live{what's the going rate at your local bakery}, if they want fillings, details of the design and so forth. Is the cake stacked or will you need seperator plates and pillars.

Giving quotes over the phone can bite you in the rear. You can tell them your STARTING price for buttercream and this is for borders only decoration and any other embellishments, flavors, delivery, flower arranging and other factors will change the overall price.

Try to not let the public intimidate you by acting as if you are charging too much. Most of them are willing to pay a florist a small fortune, pay for a very expensive dress, but think that a decorated cake is no big deal. Charge what you would be willing to pay for a cake of the same design and quality. When you get a little more confident and more known, you can increase your prices. Of course this price increase is due to the cost of your supplies going up. icon_smile.gif

Good Luck!

Michele
