I am already very over this! I carefully constructed a RI cage on a large can. It keeps falling to pieces! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif Is it my icing or is it me? I attempted to well connect all my lines and the dang thing still is falling apart. I have done 3 of them all have dried atleast 24 hours and they have all fallen apart. It doesn't appear to be too thick. Anyone help on this one? Thank God I don't have to have this ready until Friday evening! Help, please?

A couple of thoughts..

Is your royal icing fresh? I find that rebeaten royal is much more fragile and crumbly than freshly made.

Instead of going all the way around the can, you might try making two halves. That way, the pieces can just 'fall off' the can, rather than trying to slide it off.

I've had a similar problem and resorted to making my cage out of white chocolate. It's in my photos.

Thanks Diane! I searched all of CC and couldn't find one! Low and behold you answered my post! thumbs_up.gif I'm going to make a fresh batch of RI today and try it again. It has to be black, arggg! That may be part of the problem. It isn't taking too much super black to get it there. We'll see!
Thanks a million!

Ugh, black is so difficult. Remember to add your color BEFORE you thin the icing to piping consistency. If your finished product is already piping consistency without the addition of more liquid, then include the black coloring as part of the liquid in your original mixture. It WILL darken upon standing, so you don't need to go crazy with the color right away.

Good luck!! thumbs_up.gif

Just a thought, maybe you could try making it out of white ri and spraying it black with that wilton spray color.

Thank you for the education on Royal Icing cage making. I'm fascinated with the technique, and will keep all these tips in mind.

I'm so glad this worked out for you! Did you make the cage one piece or two? And where is the picture? *tapping foot* icon_wink.gificon_wink.gif
