I know htat this has been posted somewhere, but I can not find it.. I am making a treasure box cake for my son's b-day this weekend. I know that I have read that you can use rc treats for the top so it can be opened. How do I make it?? Do I make the rc the same as you normaly would? Do I mold it when it is still warm. What can I use to make the curved shape or do I just free hand it. I am preey creative, I just need a little advise and then I can go from there. Thank you all so much.

RKT are great for molding! I've never made a treasure box, but I made a recliner (Redskins cake in gallery) icon_smile.gif - I used the recipe off the box of rice krispies, but I've heard you can omit the butter and it's fine. I molded it while it was still warm and formed it a bit more as it cooled.

I made a treasure chest this summer & used cake for the bottom & top.... I have 2 pics in my gallery.
one pic shows the dowel rods I used are different heights in front & back so it could be propped open. i made the bottom one flavor & the top another. The top of the chest was made and placed on a board to help support it. I put it in the freezer to cool & that made it much easier to carve into a rounded shape. I put the top on once I got it to the party. Let me know if you'd like more pics from a different angle - I take a lot of them in the process.
Good Luck!!!!

i just did a treasure chest cake a few weeks ago. there are pics in my profile. i used RKT for the top. all i did was to have a cake board cut to the right height and then when the rice cripies were still warm i mounded them on top and molded them the way i wanted them. after it coled befor i iced it i cut any extra off. i iced and then placed on top of the cake base. one helpful hent that i got when i was looking for info about it was to tap two pieces of cardboard together and cut two holes in the one that will go on the bottom. that way when you place the dowls through the bottom cake layer and use to support the lid (open) the dowls will sit in the holes you have made and sill be supported by the top piece of card board. does that make sense? I am also a fanatic when it comes to makeing sure my cakes are supported so i put a dowl down the back through the top and bottom. hope all that helps you.
