I know a few weeks back I read somewhere that if you are taking the Wilton classes at a Michaels, any cake decorating supplies were to be discounted. I was wondering if anyone out there knows about this?

Thanks Denise

There was a 5% or 10% discount for students on any cake related products while taking the class. Sorry I can't remember if it was 5% or 10%.

Good Luck in the Class.

It's 10%... my store thought it was 15% so I got that for a while icon_smile.gif
Then one day I got 10% and they said they had checked with Wilton and 10% was the proper discount. bummer. LOL

But they have 40% off one item coupons in the paper all the time...so anything over $10/$15 I always wait for the 40% off... and they will take competitors coupons so keep an eye out for those Joann 40% ones too!! thumbs_up.gif

i believe it is 10% and it is only on the items for the projects you are doing at the time. for what i can remember. but also wilton has a tent sale every year around june and there alot of great deals there also. and michaels will also have coupons in sundays paper for 40% off any regular items including wilton and around holidays you can get 50% off coupon for a particular day and still have a 40% coupon for the rest of the week for one item only.

Boy, sure wish I would have known that when I was taking classes...they never mentioned it at my local Michael's, but think about it...why should they?!? Frustrating! I used the 40% coupons anytime I can get them, but I think that is something they should make known if that is the case.

Those 40% coupons come in very handy. I have a few people that save them for me, which is good . . .the bad thing is that "technically" it's only 1 coupon per customer, per day. Sooooo that means I end up dragging my boyfriend or mom to Micheal's A LOT. . . or I stop by a lot on my way home after the gym since they're in the same shopping center. I don't like waiting in the lines though when I'm only buying 1 item, but then I remind myself that I'm getting 40% off, and I'm ok icon_lol.gif

yup, every now and then Michael's offer real good deal like, register for a course and get the student kit for a penny, or pay one course fee for two persons...

this month, i was told that the course fee is $17.50 Cdn.

I am finishing up course 2 tonight, I got the kit for a penny thumbs_up.gif
I have to register for course 3 tonight after class, I know here in the us the course is half price this month Aug.

I was wondering about the discount, because last week I mentioned it and the instructor knew nothing about it, of course Michaels isn't going to mention it!

I did get the 40% off coupon and will use it on the course 3 kit...

Thanks for all the info
Denise

i have taken all 3 courses, 1 was at micheals and the other was at a cake and candy store and both places offered the 10% off wilton products. i was an instructor for wilton at one time and i know that stores do offer discounts. it could be that the instructor may be new, but i am sure when they took the class, they got some kind of discount. if you are not getting any answers through your instructor or micheals then i would call wilton directly and ask about discounts. also always keep your receipts for times like this. as for charmen i suggest that you call wilton or someone higher in micheals until you get an answer to your satisfaction. even if you get deals at michaels for registering for classes, it should not have anything to do with your discounts.

I am taking the Wilton Courses at Michael's too and we were told that it is a 10% discount and ONLY on the first day of class. My instructor said that some Michael's stopped giving the discount because people were trying to abuse it. Like get the 10% all the time or combine the 10% offf and 40% off, stuff like that.

I have only used the 10% discount one time. Too much hassel for the few pennies you save.......... cashier doesn't know anything about it, has to call the manager, manager has to get coordinator, have to find the book, have to post it in the book........... Never Mind! ugh.

i dont even bother with a 10% discount....i beg borrow and steal coupons for 40% off. i dont really steal them, but if feels like it when joannes emails me 40%off coupons and i make several copies and go to my micheals to shop with them. you need to sign up at the joannes web site to email you stuff, you always get a coupon that you can print out as many times as you want.
as for one coupon per person per day,,,,,i cheat too. they know me at my micheals because i am always in there. but when i was visiting my aunt we had coupons printed off, and i told manager we were using several coupons, we could either come in and out of the store several times or could do it all at once...of course, i was very nice to him and said it in a joking voice, so he let us use all the coupons then, we just had to pay seperately.
i've been known to take all my kids into the store and give them an item and a coupon and some cash and go through the line. its better to go to the same place that you always shop and make friends and just use your coupons all at once though.
man, i sound like a coupon addict, haha

I too use the micheal's coupons. Glad to hear about the 10% off! I plan on taking the wilton courses soon.
Also I didn't know that michaels takes joann's coupons!!! That is great news.
I don't like the fact that you can only use one coupon per day per person!! I too send my husband in to buy things for me.

All this time I thought I was the only one who used those coupons! I love them........at our Joann's, we have one cashier who allows you to use as many as you want......I love her.........I can use 5-6 at a time!!!!!!!! I guess she realizes I'll just keep running in and out of the store until I'm out of coupons.......

I'm taking a Wilton course at Michael's this month and I've used the 10% off on several occasions. Our instructor said to just show the receipt we received when we paid for the class and we'll get 10% off of ANY Wilton item any time we're in the store while we're enrolled in class.

Our instructor let us in on another unknown Michael's secret (because she used to be an employee of Michael's before becoming a Wilton instructor)...you can get the 40% off even without physically having the coupon, you just have to tell them at the register that you don't have your coupon but still would like the discount. They have a piece of paper in their register drawer that you have to sign and put your zip code down. I tried it on Tuesday night and they gave me 40% without showing a coupon...so it works!

I done this on several occassions and it works great! You know they have a coupon...just tell them, and they will have you put your zip code down.

In regards to showing your receipt for the 10% discount while taking classes...we had to turn in our receipt as proof we paid for the class...so much for that idea!

I'm done with my classes now, and I'm not going to worry about it, but is nice to know these things so you can pass it on to family and friends interested in taking the classes!

I don't know if you guys have AC Moore, but they will take Michael's 40% coupons and their Wilton stuff is 20% off catalog price all the time! Don't know if this is just my store or not...
