Liquer Question

Hi I've been browsing some of The Cake Lady's recipes and some of her recipes call for liquer but what exactly do they mean by this? Would I be able to find this flavored liquer at my local ABC store or this a specialized food item? Can anyone point me to a site where I can buy these?

Liquers are sweet alcohol based drinks. Sorry I am in Canada and all liquor products are sold in LCBO, government run liquor stores. In the U.S. generally any store that sells liquor, as in vodka, scotch or rye whiskeys, bourbon, those kinds of things generally has another section where they sell sweet liquers. Liquers are drinks like Tia Maria, Cointreau, Kirsch, Grand Mariner, Kahlua, Creme de Menthe, those kinds of things. They contain liquor and flavourings both artificial or natural and have a high sugar content.

That helps a ton! I just got her recipes today through email and honestly I am so excited I can't wait to try them out but I wanted to get my list together and now I know what to get. I am sure I can pick those up at the ABC store in town. How will I know which flavor to get? Two recipes: one calls for peach liqueur and the other calls for kirsch or cherry liqueur? Does anyone know the brand name or will the store clerk know what I need?

Well, Kirsch is a good purchase because you can use it for a variety of things. It is commonly used and is used for example, for a Black Forest Cake. Peach liquers, well you can get Peach Schnapps, that is fairly commonly available. There are various brands available. Kirsch can be quite expensive. Sometimes, if you only need a little, it is better to purchase the small bar or airplane sized personal serving sized bottles.

You should be able to find this stuff in any liquor store. If you can't just ask. The place I go to is so nice. I've asked for suggestions on wine and other things and have been blown away at their great advice.

The ones you and Squirrelly mentioned will be available at any liquor store, and probably most grocery stores too.

I'll try the liqueur store first. Our grocery store doesn't even have a decent wine selection. Hopefully I can get a few good ones without breaking my bank! Thanks everyone for your great advice!
