Hello, I am very new to this site as I am also to decorating cakes. I have not taken any classes yet but do plan to in the future. I have come across a few cakes here that the decorators have used the "paper towel method".
Can someone please explain to me just what exactly that is and how to do it.
This technique is when you ice your cake, let it crust for about 15 min, then take a Viva paper towel and smooth the icing. You can also do this with parchment paper, which is what I generally use. HTH
I use the Viva papertowels to smooth all my cakes .. I never could get one smooth with any type of spatula I used.. one of the intructors in a Wilton course I took shared with us how she used the Viva papertowels.. I practiced with that and having gone back .. wouldn't smooth my cakes any other way now
In this how to posted on this site for creating faux fondant it explains and shows you the paper towl method. Step 8 I think
