'i Think I Am Sick! Haha Only You Guys Would Understand'

okay, so i've been working on my first entry into the county fair for about a month...longer if you count the time i have spent thinking about it. any way, it turned out really great, i think i would have gotten a ribbon.....let me mention that i stayed up ALL night finishing this thing, and as i left the room to get dressed to drop off my delivery i heard a huge crash.....yes, my beautiful fair entrant!!!!!! GONE
i was going to enter more things but have been out of town, so disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the part that makes me wonder if i am sick or not, is that i called to get info on the next door county fair for next month....already deciding what i want to do for that...... thats so crazy that its funny! i knew you guys would understand this strange compulsive desire to decorate cakes.

I don't think you're sick...I think you're just bound and determined not to dwell on past mishaps....I'm sure the next entry will be bigger and better than ever!
I can´t really say anything ... that is really bad after all the work. Did you made a photo?
But I can understand your feelings and for myself I figured out that the point of not going totally nuts is, that you finished the cake, satisfied with the way it looks and proud of yourself. Ok it would be an extra to get a price for it, but just the feeling that you made something from the idea to the finished cake, like you wanted it to be, is such a good feeling, that you can go for the next one.
Good luck for the next entry.
Best wishes Tuggy
I would have been heartbroken!! But on to bigger and better.. good luck in the next attempt. BUT, I must ask.... what actually happened to the cake that "died" lol
Yes we are all sickos, addicted to cake. Like someone on here says in their quote" drug of choice icing"
I know I would have been quite upset if that happened to me! However, I know that I would still be making cakes. I think it is great that you will be trying again...best of luck and I hope you will let us know how it goes! By the way...what happened to your cake???

my cake was a three foot tall santa clause, he got too top heavy and fell over, broke in half and landed on his cute little face, breaking it and his glasses. still makes me want to cry. it was sculpted out of that green foam that is for flowers to stand in. i should have duck taped it from head to toe then applied my mmf.
i have a picture, i'll have my husband help me post it tomorrow.

melody--I was thinking about doing something for our county fair...so is it standard to make a dummy cake and decorate it?
I am glad that you were able to get a picture. I am sure you learned from this...and will know better what to do next time
I think you have to check the entry requirements. If they say you can't use a dummy cake, you can always use rice crispy treats to form the cake from.
I would have been sick to my stomach if that happened to me. I am so sorry for you! I am glad there will be another fair close by for you to enter another one. I can't wait to see the picture! I bet it looked great!
Sorry....

I'm so sorry that happened, but I am so proud of you for looking forward to that next cake! I had a similar incident - baked a beautiful cake for our office Christmas party, so I put it on an exquisite glass cake stand. Since I was fairly new to decorating, I didn't know to "glue" the cake board to the glass stand, or to transport it in a box and assemble later - to make a long story short, the cake slid right off the stand as I was walking out my front door! Boy - did I learn a good lesson that day!
But, 21 years later, I'm still decorating - so I guess I must truly be "addicted"!
you guys are great. i am starting over as we speak. this thing took forever to make..... grrrrr oh well...i will make it bigger and better and really want to win a ribbon.
here we go agian. at least this time i kinda know what i am doing, thanks every one!

What do "they" say..."Success and greatness are born from adversity" ! You definately have the right attitude to jump right back in! Inspiring! Thanks for sharing insights on what you'd change this time around too. Look forward to the pic(s)!!
