My husband wants an elk cake for his birthday. Which will also be at the company picnic. They are all hunting freaks. They say their not but THEY ARE. So I need a pic or an idea of how to do this ASAP. The party is on Aug 5th. thanks again

eeek! I would love to help...but I don't even know what an elk looks like! I've seen some example of 3D horses, could you just alter that to look like an elk? Maybe some upside down sugar cones frosted to look like pine trees?

Ok a deer will do. I saw the picture of one in the galleries but need more info instructions. Look up elk in a search. youll see the big (and tasty) animal. Just the head and horns will so!

well...I can't find the link now icon_sad.gif I do know that there is a unicorn on wilton and they used the cuddly lamb pan.. Another option would be to find a pic and do a BCT of an elk onto a sheet cake. Or are you wanting a 3D cake?

This link had really nice pictures if you wanted to do a photo image
Are you good at free hand drawing? or are you thinking of a BCT?

I can free had fairly well. I dont have any airbrush equipment at all. How about painting. And then how would I do that? A 3D would be good. How would I get the horns to stay???

Here are a few more pictures I found...

Hmmm the only think I can think of is using rods/dowels to hold them on, just make the bottom half of the horns long enough and wide enough so you can anchor them

Please remember to post a picture when your done, I would love to see it

Good Luck Denise

on the antlers...I have no idea...candy clay w/dowel rods? fondant? Everything seems too heavy. Unless you just made smaller antlers

You might check out this discussion on here:

Flayvurfun is probably in the process of moving but you might be able to get the instructions from someone here that got them from her.

If you have enough time you could change it a little to look a little more 'elk-like'.

There's an elk cake in my gallery but it was an edible image that I used from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for their banquet. I had another pic of an elk on a cake but i'll have to look for it.

What did you make them out of?

inner structure is wire, tin foil gives it the bulk, masking tape for the surface
and royal icing covers the outside. Then I painted the streeks to resemble the real look of the horn.
