Hi Everyone

I am trying to find the regulations for opening a cake shop in KY. I have talked to our local Health inspector and he couldn't find in any regulations in our area for a bakery/cake shop. I live in eastern ky, we are a very rural area.
He gave me some regulations for a restaurant and they were very stringent for instance a 500 gallon grease trap connected to the septic tank.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had any experience with this or if any one knows where I can find the correct regulations.

I know this sounds kinda obvious but have you tried contacting a local bakery and seeing what they have to say?
Maybe even ask a manager at a Krogers or Walmart for some numbers since they have frequently have food/bakery areas.

We don't have any acutual bakeries in our area. We do have a Walmart and another large grocery store, but they are both on the city sewer system and don't have to deal with the septic tank scenario. Thanks for your thoughts.

I know this is regarding a home based business rather than a cake shop, but I found this link: http://www.lrc.state.ky.us/KRS/217-00/136.PDF . Does anyone know if it is accurate? And does it only apply to those on a farm? Just wondered if anyone has any insight. Thanks.

Edited: OH NEVERMIND! I dug a little deeper and found that you have to have grown the predominant ingredient on your farm. And I don't think there's any way I can pretend that I'm growing Duncan Hines cake mixes in my backyard!!! icon_biggrin.gif

I called my local health dept. in Marion co.
He said you had to have a kitchen seperate from your house. Running water, axcess to a bathroom, sink, stove, fridge, washable walls, and I don't remember what else.
He said it was basically the same as opening a McDonalds.
If anybody else has an info, let me know.

Also I have a friend who was born in Pike county. Mark Lowe, would you happen to know him ?
