Ok, I have to make some buttons for a cake in Oct. I'm not sure how they do these to make them look uniform. Does anyone that has done them have any tips to share? Thanks so much!!!!!

I can't answer your question, but if you have the wilton yearbook that has the baby clothes line cake it tells you there. It's either in the '04, '05 or '06 book. You'll probably get an answer before I can get to my book.

Use two round cutters, one just a little smaller than the other. Cut out your round using the bigger one, then use the smaller one to just imprint into the circle (you know, that raised part around the outside of the button). Then use the end of a paintbrush to push in 4 dents for the button holes, or just 2, depending on the button you are making.

I cut out the buttons with a small circle cutter and press a wooden dowel in the center. Then use the end of a paintbrush to make the holes.

I needed to make several different size buttons and didnt have any round cutters that were small enough. So , i used my icing tips . I used the regular size and then I used something like a 1 B ( larger tip) to do a little bit bigger button . I then used a 125 tip to make a circular impression on top of the button , to make it look like a real button.( the 125 is just a little smaller and it worked great) . i then used a paintbrush end to make my 4 indentions for the holes .

I use a #2 or #3 tip to make the holes depending on the size of the button. It acts like a mini cookie cutter and you'll have nice clean holes.
