Cake that looks like a jelly doughnut?

I always ask the weirdest questions (and therefore often don't get answers), and here's today's: How could I make a cake that looks like a jelly doughnut? A chocolate-glazed donut would be easy - hole, glaze, sprinkles. But would it look like a jelly donut if I just sort of hollowed out the center of the top (maybe from underneath, to get it to sag) and sprinkled it with powdered sugar? Maybe an ooze of jelly coming out of the side? I could use a white cake, yellow cake or pound cake, so BC or no BC is fine. Any thoughts out there?

I don't know...just brainstorming here...
You could try baking rounds with a hump like they do for hamburger bun cakes. Don't trim, put bottoms together with jelly filling, make a fake hole in dam looking like the oozing jelly. You could top it with a glaze instead of buttercream...
Does this help at all?

Ooh, I like the glaze idea (can you tell I'm not a doughnut person?). I always thought of jelly doughnuts as being sort of sunken in on top, not puffed out. I may have to do some research! Thanks!
