I'm making a cake for my daughter's 10th birthday on Friday and the horseshoe that I made out of fondont broke!!! I only made one, first mistake and now am out of fondont and don't have the ingredients to make my own, second mistake. ( The nearest store is 30 min away and I can't get out tonight) I have marzipan in the closet... will it dry hard enough to make a horsehoe strong enough to stand up on the top of the cake or am I out of luck and in need of a different design??

I don't know how long it will need but I have made marzipan decorations that dried but it wasn't anything thin that needed to stand up. I would think it would work maybe just make it a little thicker than you normally would for extra strength.
Good luck,
Heather

Choclate is a good idea- a lot tastier too! I'll have to go and check my candy supplies to see if I have any candy melts- now I wish I had a mold or cookie cutter shape- Thanks!

Maybe the marzipan will be okay by tomorrow???

Do you have the ingredients to make pastillage? That stuff dries extremely quickly and very hard.

I was making a fondant bbq pit of the weekend and the bottom cracked, so i used some royal icing, worked great.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I was actually able to salvage the shoe. I ended up covering it with melted chocolate which helped to hold it together and attach to the base really well. I'm attaching the finished product below.

Thanks to all for your help!

Here's what Idid with the cake topper this weekend for the family party. My daughter LOVED the cake! She picked out the design from looking at EVERY horse cake on CC- she combined several ideas and this is what we came up with
