hello cc, i love to bake and so much interested in decorating as well. i'm still new in baking and very keen to learn more.
i have some questions, hoping you can help me..
1. what is gumpaste?
2. what is sugarpaste?
3. what are the differences between these 2 and fondant?

Sugarpaste and fondant are the same thing. Made of sugar, gelatine, glucse and glycerine and used to cover cakes to get that smooth look.

Gumpaste is also a sugar-based dough that dries hard and is used for making flowers and small decorations.

If you mix equal parts of the 2 together, you get modelling paste that's great for figures.

both are a type of sugar paste (kinda like edible playdough). You can mold, roll out. gumpaste dries like rock and no way would you eat unless you want to break your teeth. Fondant doesn't dry as hard and is easily more edible (if you make or buy something other than wilton). Alot of people add tylose to fondant and it will dry harder like gumpaste. I am sure you can find alot on these subject in the archives, and most books. I have checked out almost every cake decorating book my library has. It helps sort out the ones I want to buy.
