Oh, I am SO BUMMED!!!

I just got the email of a lifetime, at least for someone like me! A lady in Dayton, OH wants a cake in the likeness of the Brooklyn Bridge for the owner of their company. She said (get this!) that she pulled me up as "one of the top specialty cake shops of Cincinnati"!!!???

I don't know where she got that. But, here's the bummer....

I CAN'T DO IT!!!

I have a cake order that day for a birthday, then I have 3 obligations not cake related, then I'm scheduled to work! Even if I could get off, I couldn't do it, since I'm supposed to work at the dojo that Saturday and haven't found my replacement yet.

Not that I have the faintest idea how I'd make and transport that monster...but I SO wanted to try!

Even great ones have a waiting list. Sorry....you might tell her that you are already booked but please keep you in mind for any future cakes or whatever and maybe refer her to someone that you like and have done business with.

Karateka,

Off topic...my DH and I would like to put our son in Karate..he is 5 1/2. Is that a good age to start him or wait until he is at least 6??

Maybe she would consider moving the date a day or two earlier or later. If refrigerated, I am sure the cake would still be good. I saw the neatest cake somewhere that reminds me of that order I think it was in the Whimsical Bakehouse book. All chocolate transfers! But it was a new york skyline I think.

I would ask what kerri suggested and if not, I'm sorry that you can't do it. But hey, that's great about having a good name out there!

Myabe you could do it in fruit cake? This lasts for ages and would enable you to do it in advance - or persuade some of your other orders to have fruit cake? This is how I get round having multiple orders for one day.

icon_smile.gif This is clearly one of the biggest things that divides the states and England besides the pond. Poor fruitcake is the butt of many a joke in the US. I am actually curious to try a fruitcake that you Brits and our friends in Australia talk about because you couldn't pay me to eat a fruitcake here! icon_lol.gif There has to be something to the fruit cakes you guys make because Iknow they are a very popular option!

Here's hoping you can come up with a solution to be able to book the job! My brain is mush or I would try to help. I'm making my little one's 2nd b-day cake (Bear in the Big Blue House) a 3-d Lightening McQueen cake for a friend's little one's b-day, 40 race car cookies, and 2 1/2 pool cookies for my fil's business! icon_eek.gif

Every year my mother gets together with my aunts to make fruitcakes for Christmas. They make quite a few. I'm not a big fan, but they aren't bad. We live in the US, so not all Americans dislike fruitcake!!

Cookies can be made ahead! They tend to freeze well. Does that help at all?

Rice krispie treats?
Cake dummy?
Fondant?

How big does this need to be? Heck, some people set wedding dates by cake decorator availability, why not this?

I don't know where she got that. :

She might have seen this on your website: "Welcome! You have chosen the finest cottage foods bakery in the Cincinnati area." and taken a little creative license? Or, she has heard good things about your cakes?

I hope you find a way to manage all of the obligations. If you do the cake, please post pictures.

Hey! I'm in the Dayton area...when does she need it, LOL. Too bad your totally booked and can't do it. I can't imagine what you would have ot charge for delivery from there to here though! With gas prices, it would probably be as much as the cake!
