What would be your wish??? icon_rolleyes.gif

I have often thought it would be nice to have someone bake my cakes, stack, fill, level and crumbcoat so all I have to do is come in and decorate. I would also like the MMF already made and waiting with the already made buttercream, etc.

This would also work for NFSC's. I would prefer them to be rolled, cut, baked, cooled and ready to be decorated!

Okay...am I just lazy or what!?! icon_redface.gif

LOL - I know I know... someone to do the clean up afterwards. And how about the cakes being pre-iced perfectly smooth? That is one thing I struggle with.

You just want to enjoy the most fun part for you - that isn't lazy.... icon_biggrin.gif

I love the process of making the cake, but hate making icing, but love the taste of homemade!!

hmm.... how about an incredibly hot guy doing all the grunt work while we watch with drink in hand? hehe.. now I'm being the bad one icon_lol.gif

I feel that way sometimes too. Depends if Im in the mood to bake. Sometimes Im not and really just want to do the art part of the job only!
If I had my dream....I would be busy making cakes and actually making a living out of this!! Oh, and featured on Food Network. Might as well dream big!

Ok when I worked at a bakery- it was a dream job.
The baker made and leveled the cakes and also made all the icing
the assistant colored all the icing and wrapped all the boards- I just made a list for her of colors and sizes
The other decorator based iced all the cakes
And someone cleaned up after me everyday!!!! All I had to do was decorate and let me tell you it was so awesome and I was totally spoiled. Then I moved and had to leave that job- I miss it so much,
The thing I hate the most is clean up- I hate cleaning tips and bags- even tried leaving them on the counter til the got all crusty and I could just shake the icing out. Nothing works better than old fashioned hot soapy water!!!!
If I could have one wish right now- it would be to bring my husband home from Iraq. not only does he love to eat the cake scraps he will also clean up after me- nothing is sexier than a man washing your spatulas!!!

Definite dream job marcimang!! Too bad you had to move on.... icon_sad.gif

After growing up without a dishwasher (my mom doesn't believe in them...her 2 hands and her kids hands are good enough!) I definitely appreciate their ability to clean my tips and spatulas! icon_biggrin.gif

Girltrapped - I feel the exact same way you do. The decorating is the fun part and I hate getting everything ready especially colouring the icing!

Marcimang................

I had a bakery job like that too for about 3 years. They stacked the wedding cakes and everything. I decorated them already stacked. Life asked me to move on though so I did.
Now when I am doing all of those, "not so desirable", jobs...I let myself daydream. I am thinking about the cakes I have to do tomorrow...wondering if all of the customers will like what I did for them today. Trying to think up new ideas. Thinking about the next Holiday coming up and how to decorate for it. Helps keep my otherwise bored mind occupied.

The absolute worse job is the clean up, especially when you put so much into the making and decorating and are ready to relax. The second worse is making the icing. I wish I could say my husband would help with it but not my luck!

Well I can't say I hate making the icing.. my hubby makes the icing lol. Every cake we do his job is lifting the heavy cake out of the oven for me, making the icing, and cleaning up after wards lol. Then if we need to deliver he holds it on his lap so nothing happens to it lol.

All I have to do really is mix the batter up, prepare the pans if he hasn't beat me to it, pour the batter, have him rap it on the counter for me lol (he's stronger icon_wink.gif and I just love seeing the muscles in action icon_wink.gif), I pop it into the oven if it isn't too heavy for me, and then he goes into clean up make icing mode and kicks me outta the kitchen lol. He calls me in to do the smooshing cause he "just can't get it right" he says lol. Then if he hasn't already done so I prepare the cake board(s) and prepare to flip the cake (if I can lift it lol if not he flips for me) then it gets left to rest and finish cooling. When finished cooling I prepare my work station and he brings the cake in to me and helps me get everything just right and then runs up stairs with the cats and kid to stay out of the way lol. When I finish decorating he helps me take my photos by holding the blanket up behind the cake as a back drop, then tapes the boxes up, "because I'm the man and I do it better" so he says.... lol then he insists on putting the cake in the box that he's just taped up and places it in the fridge... man he does alot of work for MY business lmfao. Guessin' he's a keeper icon_wink.gif And yes he gets paid very well for all his hard work and help icon_wink.gif

I would love for someone to make the icing and do the cleanup. I don'/t mind baking or icing the cake, and I love the decorating. I figure that's my reward for doing the other stuff!

Actually, I just had foot surgery, and my husband will be doing everything but the icing of the cake and decorating for me for the next six weeks! icon_lol.gif

OHMYGOODIES,
WHERE CAN I FIND A MAN LIKE THAT? DOES HE HAVE ANY BROTHERS? JUST KIDDIN. I AM HAPPILY ENGAGED. I CAN ALWAYS DAYDREAM ABOUT THAT KIND OF HELP THOUGH. MY WISH WOULD TO GET MY ISLAND IN THE KITCHEN AND TO GET RID OF THIS SORRY EXCUSE FOR AN OVEN. IT BAKES GREAT BUT IT IS SO OLD THAT IT DOESN'T HAVE A WINDOW. I HAVE TO OPEN THE DOOR TO CHECK ON MY CAKES.

goodies, i'd like you to have your hubby call mine. i'm gonna make sure he reads your post. mine doesn't QUITE do this stuff. he will open the door for me when i'm carrying a cake out to the car if he notices or i holler for him. what a gem you have.

i HATE DOING DISHES. the stuff i can throw into the dishwasher -ok. i hate cleaning bags the worst.

i'd love to have someone around to make and color the icing (i'm VERY particular with color) and fill bags. and of course clean up. i really like the idea with the beef cake and the drink and watching these processes. if i could find someone to do that maybe the DH would notice my appreciation for said beef cake and pitch in! icon_lol.gif

i enjoy every stage of the process-i learned to decorate because i LOVED baking but my cakes never got noticed...now i love to decorate too.....

but if i could? i'd happily give up the bag/tip cleaning.....and covering boards....my dream job would NEVER have me pressed for time....i'd have a structured week- a day to premake pearls or flowers, or whatever fondant figure i could dream up.....a day of baking, a day of icing/coloring, a day to stack and base coat, and a day for fun/assembly...
of course, i;d have plenty of room to work in...

i'd also dream up the ability to turn away customers who just weren't willing to pay extra for time/effort. every one would want/get a stacked cake with lots of pizzazz... and a cute/catchy business name...and a killer reputation....people would say' she's expensive, but MAN she's worth every penny!'

am i still dreaming? no one would want/ask for a sheet cake....nor a white cake...

how's that sound?
Sally

A kooky notion I know but it would be oh so lovely if I had umm say electricity when I move my 2 6'11 inch commerical refreidges that are compleltly stocked with parishable food in this sunday!!!??!!
And it would be just grand if I didn't have to haul buckets of water in because my plumber actually showed up when he said he would...

Man!!! You've got it made in the shade. My hubby hasn't cleaned the kitchen in the 23 years we've been married. He makes up for it in other ways.... icon_lol.gif He does all the outisde work and makes a living for us so I don't complain. I cook just about every night and do ALL the work inside but that's OK (well, we have a maid service come in and clean once a week icon_biggrin.gif ).

My dream would be to do this as a living and to have a resturaunt. Weird cause I dreamed last night I was doing an average of 55 cakes per week and my best friend (el cheapo) was griping cause I wouldn't give her a discount.

My hubby figured that if I did 40 cakes per week, he could retire. That would be good for him but that would mean I'd have come out of retirement. icon_mad.gif That would be wonderful cause I love to cook and bake.

I'll be the first to admit I've got a great one of a kind man icon_wink.gif. He does have two half brothers but they are NOTHING like him icon_wink.gif He is the way he is because he was raised by his mother and grand mother alone, and the only male figure in his life was his uncle - mom's brother - who busted his butt every day even after he was partially paralized in a car accident. He ended up having to have half of his hip removed and his one leg is shorter then the other by a big difference... but he still works his butt off every day and he's learned from all these wonderful people in his life and he was well "trained" by his ex-wife lmao she was never home and he had to tend to the kids from the second he walked in from work till the second she walked in as he was walking out for work in the morning... sometimes I take it all for granted but am the first to admit I've got it made and wouldn't trade it for the world! icon_smile.gif

It would be wonderful if I had a big enough kitchen with all the tools and appliances I could ever want. I want a professional dishwasher that gets the dishes super clean & degreases them in 10 seconds.

I definately would want someone to clean up for me.

It would also be nice if I didn't have to practice so hard to perfect my skills. I am really good at looking at everyone else's work an attempting things WAY beyond my current level.

If someone else would wash the dishes, I would be in heaven. I love making the mess (and any kind of it) just not cleaning up. I would bake so much more if the thought of cleaning up didn't put a damper on it.

Oh, yeah, plus since I've only been on my own a few years and living on a grad school salary, I wish I had more utensils and bowls.... and a Kitchenaid mixer. icon_cry.gif
